I heard you shouldn’t but I never heard anything to actually back that up.

From everything ive read online, its a crap shoot. Some people say they are fine with it and still smoke regularly while others say they undergo mild panic attacks. If I were you id take it slow and see what happens.

I tried looking on Erowid to see if there were any warning with SSRIs and marijuana but there dont seem to be any, they did however say to stay away from mushrooms.

Good luck with everything.

SSRI’s function is to increase the serotonin in your brain, which is believed to be one of the reasons for clinical depression. An authoritative study has shown that at low doses marijuana can increase levels of serotonin and relieve depression but at larger doses it can actually decrease serotonin, basically counteracting the SSRI’s.

You can interpret that as you’d like but I’d caution: you’re currently being treated on a specific regimen and taking marijuana throws the treatment plan off-track.

My personal experience with clinical depression is that marijuana might treat some immediate symptoms (poor appetite, depressed mood, insomnia) but it all too often becomes a crutch which worsens the depression (and is very difficult to stop using). For those that want to improve their condition it’s important they do so first without non-prescribed drugs. If at some point you’ve reach a point where you’re comfortable with managing (or eliminating) the depression than that might be the time to recreationally try some again.

thanks for all the replies, if it changes anything, I’m talking about like once or twice a week tops, not daily. I’ve been doing it on the medicine, but I just want to make sure I’m not like risking my life?

Marijuana is never life-threatening (it’s virtually impossible for you to die from marijuana use). But if you’re on SSRI’s than it’s just not a great idea to be using pot and sorry I’m not trying to preach but I’m speaking as someone that’s been in your position.

If you do choose to keep toking consider making a firm limit to not doing anymore than you do now…
