Asked by cschack (227points) December 15th, 2008

It bugs me that I can’t post to my blog via email. I hoped the 2.7 release would have it built in, but no. The Postie plugin doesn’t work any longer, either, and I haven’t found any equivalent. Any tips? I’d like to be able to post from my mobile again…

I believe you are mistaken, the 2.7 release has post via email built in. It’s in Settings, in the Writing section. How it works is that you set up a POP3 mail account dedicated just for posting on your blog, and email your entries to that address, and they will be posted.

Sorry, I should have been clearer – I know WP has had the option for some time now, and I’ve used it before – the postie plugin used to work (back in 2.3 or so?). My problem is getting the blog to actually post the content of the email – without having to go to “wp-mail.php” or some other trick to update the blog (which either way only sets it to “pending” as far as I can tell) Does that make sense?

I had a question about WP in another topic but how customizable is wordpress, can I integrate it into my layout, or do I have to work my layout around wordpress?

johnny, you need HTML skills to wrap Wordpress around the exact layout you’ve picked (which I’ve seen). And this takes a good chunk of time and skills in HTML. The best option is to compromise, find a free wordpress layout that is physically structured the way you want it, and change the colors and images. This is pretty easy to do but you do need to get arm deep in HTML (you can do this with notepad) and you need an FTP program to upload the design once done. Have you gotten some web hosting for your site yet?

Yeah, I am pretty good with HTML, css im shaky on, I have a web host, in fact I have the forum going and a social network, and once i do some touch ups on the design for the site, that will be ready to go last thing I need to figure out is if Im going to spend the time on wordpres or some other php news/blog script that may suit my needs more.

Well if you already have a social network and forum, Wordpress is overkill. Wordpress is good to start from if you want to rely on it to build the social network, but is not really great at integrating into only a main page etc. Unfortunately I don’t know of any minimalistic blog engine that can be integrated into a main page which is what you’re looking for.

I felt like wordpress was overkill too but I really just wanted something to make posting entries on news articles a little bit more easy. I’d be posting anyplace from 2–10 times a day and as you can image that can get annoying just doing it all in an HTML file, maybe ill just do it in a stand alone php page and link the php page into the main page that way i dont a bunch of other coding in my way….ill have to look around I no a few years ago I had found a great news poster php script…i wish i knew what it was heh

Hi, I just install the wordpress component into my joomla. I’ve set up the dedicated email but my problem goes when I want to publish my email post, I can’t figure out how to manual browser activation can be done. How can I go to wp-mail.php, since it give me an error “Direct Access to this location is not allowed”. Did i miss something else? Can anyone help?
