What's your Home folder like?

Asked by queenzboulevard (2551points) December 16th, 2008

Do you have only the defaults in it, or do you throw whatever into it?

My home folder is tidy, as it should be. The sub folders is where the chaos be at!

My home folder only has the stuff that came on the computer

I color coded my home folder subs for clarity as to the purpose of each sub…

My home folder is pretty tidy since most of my files are stored on my external harddrive which is shared over my wireless network.

Neat as a pin, color-coded. Lots of sub folders, equally as neat.

I’m very obsesive about this. God forbid anyone fucks with my system.

My home folder is very clean. There are only 3 extra folders in it. One is for DropBox, another for Traktor3, and a third for torrents.

I can’t stand to have messy folders.

My home folders are clean and mostly empty All my stuff is in 4 different folders on my desktop, called Stuff, PNG, Gigs, Work and Bus
Stuff is where i have everything stored from school stuff to funny pictures.
PNG is my big collection of PNG files
Gigs is an archive with pictures and setlists from different gigs I’ve attended.
Work is of course work related files
Bus is where i keep all stuff related to my planning of my graduation (we norwegians know how to celebrate)

@wilhel1812 That is probably the least organized form of organization I’ve ever heard of haha for me I have folders down to the very specifics “Vacation Photos”, etc. Maybe I’m just over organized, but I have a decent amount of subfolders.

I have a lot of subfolders
and all of those folders have subfolders too.
And in my stuff folder, everything is labeled by topic and in subfolders. An english essay might be in the English subfolder and named “English – Essay.pdf” I mostly use spotlight to find my files.

I try to keep mine fairly well organised. It gets a bit messy sometimes, but I tend to keep on top of it.

Just the defaults, plus one folder that was created automatically by the program that I use to sync Google Calendar and iCal (I would delete it if I could, but I prefer being able to sync—also, I’m still on Tiger if you’re wondering why I have to use a separate program just to sync).

As for my subfolders, they are very organized as well. Absolutely every file that comes onto my system—unless it is created locally (and sometimes even then)—comes first through the Inbox folder on my desktop. Nothing is moved out of the Inbox unless it is going to the Pending folder, to the Outbox, or to its proper place in my Home folder. Also, I make sure that the Inbox stays as empty as possible. If something is pending but I also know exactly how to file it, then I’ll create an alias in the Pending folder.
