Why is there skin discoloration around my anti-brow piercing?

Asked by QUEER (101points) December 16th, 2008

I thought that I just had really dark circles under my eyes because I haven’t gotten a lot of sleep lately, but after three days of having my anti-brow piercing i noticed that there is a spot that is significantly darker next to the piercing. The skin around the piercing is also yellowing. I hope someone can help me with this.

Yuck, I hope that’s not an infection you have going there!

I know that some discoloration is a little normal in the first few days, but yellow? That I haven’t heard of.

Just make sure to keep using a special cleaning solution on it, don’t pick/touch it, and see if it gets worse. Also keep a look out for any pain. Does it hurt you now?

There’s no pain. It’s more purple/red, the yellowing is minor. I thought it might be an infection at first too but there is little to no pain or swelling.

Okay, I have a feeling you may be okay then. Just keep cleaning and keep an eye on it. Pain and swelling is def bad signs so it’s good to hear that you aren’t experiencing any of that.

Could it be bruising?

Augustlan is right. It is likely bruising. Blood vessels broke during the piercing, and then gravity carried the blood downward to a spot where it would stop, likely below the piercing. As blood is broken down, it changes a variety of colors, from red/blue, to purple, to brown to yellow. All will be ok.
