Why isn't Steve Jobs presenting for Apple at MacWorld?

Asked by Trustinglife (6668points) December 19th, 2008

(My friend is trying out Fluther and had this question.)

Apple’s stock tumbled 6% the day they announced it. It went down again the next day. Any idea why he won’t be presenting?

because….

Apple is reaching more people in more ways than ever before, so like many companies, trade shows have become a very minor part of how Apple reaches its customers. The increasing popularity of Appleā€™s Retail Stores, which more than 3.5 million people visit every week, and the Apple.com website enable Apple to directly reach more than a hundred million customers around the world in innovative new ways.

Indeed it is a sad year for Apple fans with the discontinuation of Macworld.

Because, quite simply, Internet killed the trade show. There is absolutely no reason for trade shows the size of MacWorld (and CES) anymore. Apple has always been one of the few companies willing to change tacks when they see the writing in the wall.

But isn’t it hard to read when the writing is in the wall?~ j/k

John Gruber has posted a lot of insightful commentaries about this on his blog, Daring Fireball.

In part it may be to try to de-celebritize Steve Jobs. Any CEO is important to a company, but the extent to which he in particular is important to Apple may prove unhealthy for the company.

A lot of people think he’s sick and dying. Don’t be surprised if it happens… :(

I think it’s an early step in the process of taking Steve off the throne.

I’m also sad!

My guess would be that people expect a miracle or something every year from Apple, and if they don’t deliver/announce something that no one has done before then people are disappointed…

Which does NOT make any sense to me. Microsoft just Copies other people and get away with it…

(not hating on them, just saying…I use a PC myself for gaming)

Oh…also, I’m guessing that they want us to “trust/get to know” other faces at apple (via videos/clips whatever they have planned…future CEO of Apple anyone?)
instead of Steve Jobs (in case something happens to him)

Did anyone else get goose bumps or cry after reading this AWESOME article?
