What's all the buzz over the Sims 3?

Asked by blastfamy (2174points) December 21st, 2008

I have never played any of the sims games, but I’ve seen them played once or twice. From what I can see, everything in the sims 3 is virtually the same as that of the sims 2.

What are the major differences? Why all the hype?

as a(n obsessive) sims fan, most of the big differences wouldn’t make much sense to someone who isn’t a sims fan. like, in the 2nd sims, you have to wait like forever for loadings screens and whatnot if your sims want to go to a restaurant or something, but in sims 3, the neighborhood is just like completely open, and you can go and visit your sims’ friends’ houses, parks, colleges, etc. they say the sims themselves are more realistic, but i think they just look creepy so far in most of the screen shots. also you can change their body types and whatnot instead of just having thin and overweight, and there’s more options with furniture and stuff. i don’t know dude, i don’t expect most people to really get why sims fans are so excited about it, i think you have to be wrapped up in the nerdy little sim world to get excited about it haha [=

Well there’s always Spore. Same creator as the Sims franchise but without all the in-depth life-controlling addiction.

I’m not sure what the hype is personally. The only real big features I’ve heard about are: other Sims can interact and “live” when you are playing as a different Sim, you can go into other neighbor’s lots more easily and possibly as the active Sim. I hope that they keep enough of the engine so that the thousands of fan made creations from Sims 2 can remain useful and work fine – there’s no real need to change their engine, they don’t need to make it look better.

So as a long time Sims fan and player, I don’t care about this new version, I probably won’t touch it for a few months. And I read a lot of gaming news sites and they’re not excited either about it. I haven’t seen any hype, but I also don’t watch TV etc, maybe you do and this is where the hype is coming from?
