What are some good programs to go to Africa?

I plan to visit Africa right after I graduate from college and do some volunteer work. What organization or program can I be a party of that does more than 2 weeks ( Im looking for 6mo. to a year) and also wont cost me an arm and a long to get there and sleep there.

What kind of volunteer work do you want to do? What kind of volunteer/work experience do you have? Degrees? Foreign language skills? I have some org ideas, but they’ll depend on your responses.

I am in S.Africa and have met a fair amount of students working here in community development. There are so many projects and help is so badly needed. Perhaps Google community development work South/Africa.
