Do pay stations have sensors that empty you meter time when you leave?

Asked by shimizu1006 (42points) December 26th, 2008 from iPhone

The city of LA recently installed pay stations on a commercial street in my neighborhood. They collect money and have an electronic timer time your stay. (It sucks because we have to pay on Sundays now:(. Anyway, does anyone know if these new ‘paystations’ have sensors that detect when you back out, and then erase the extra time you put in the meter?

Are you talking about electronic parking meters? If so, the ones I’ve seen do not erase the time paid for when you leave. I’ve lucked into a few parking spaces that still had time left on the meter. Always feels like a bonus!

Yah. Those things. I’ve run into a lucky situation where there was some extra time left over but I thought maybe the sensor didn’t catch it. Plus that’s the rumor that’s been going around.

Some newer ones have sensors that erase the remaining time when you leave. You’d have to check / experiment in order to find out whether the ones in your area have them or not.
