I found 10 of those old Apple laptops, the ones which looked like sewing machines. Also some guy named Jeff and a watermelon.

I don’t dumpster dive, but during the summer we have a bulk pick up in my city and people throw out the coolest stuff! I once found an umbrella for my friend, a couple of out doors stools and this really interesting drawing of a bird decoupaged onto wood. I gave that to my aunt several years ago and she still has it in her kitchen.

After the move out date on our college campus, we dumpster dove for a whole night to prove a point. Everything we collected we donated to local charities…but over the course of a night we found a whole living room set- nice rug, a floor lamp, a table lamp, a perfectly good futon, a dvd rack, a handful of working tv, a working computer, a couple bean bag chairs, a working microwave and a couple ironing boards. I also found a completely sealed unopened crate of cans of chicken noodle soup, a full 36 pack of ramen, and a bunch of unopened cereal.

It’s very sad on a college campus. We try to do this every year… It seems like everyone packs their car and then throws away things they can just buy later. While that makes sense, it’s really not hard to take stuff to goodwill… I’ve actually thought about renting a storage box, collecting all this junk put in in there…then sell it at the beginning of the next semester when they’re all trying to buy these things.. It’s just so wasteful it makes me sick.

i’ve always wanted to, but i think i’ll wait til i need to, because now i’d just feel like a jerk stealing stuff from people who need it more than i do.

A $300+ leather laptop/sidebag in a gutter once. A coach purse, and a set of diamond earrings. Right there on the top.

Damn girl you made a haul.

Just lucky I guess. :)

I’ve never truly dumpster dived though, most of that stuff was just sitting on the top.

If you want to dumpster dive properly you go to the mall and hit their dumpsters. That’s where I found my earrings and purse, just happened to be walking by. Designer loot, FTW!

Lots of furniture I re-did and my old roommate and I redecorated our whole house just about. Old windows to stain glass, dozens of bags of chips because we would go behind the Lays factory. Doughnuts from Krispy Kreme. I have a pickup truck so I am the dumpster diving queen. After hurricanes is the best time.
