Looks fine to me, I’d put something like that in a narrow hallway, bedroom or kitchen personally. I don’t think it goes with the rest of your decor in that area. Besides, that’s the kind of poppy art that just goes better in those areas.

the last photo is fine, but the ones that zoom in on the desk. I feel like something is missing in the right side of that desk. maybe its just too plain compared to the rest of the areas of the photo. But I dunno, its hard to say.

Make sure that they match the style of your house. I think that they are OK, I would have them in my house. Try putting them in different places or something because that really helps with me. Good Luck.

[Edit]: now that I think of it, I am not sure that they look good. (I didn’t look at the last picture). That room kind of kind of] has the whole Tuscany look going on with the picture and everything. I would say try to look for different places.

I am an interior designer. I think the art looks fine in that location but should come down a few inches. The center of the grouping should be at or around average eye level 5’-6” high.

kapuerajam's avatar

Not a really good place for them it makes them look out of place.

richardhenry's avatar

I don’t really like them. Sort of cheesy.

I like the prints, though I’m not sure about the placement. The room doesn’t seem to have a cohesive style to it. You have several different styles of art hung in close proximity to each other, and even different styles of accessories on the desk. Try to pull it all together, with color or style. I also think they should be hung lower. The only thing is, the ceiling is high there…maybe something larger (hung lower) would fill the space better.

Unless you are going to invite us to live with you, it doesn’t matter if we like them or not. 100 people will have 100 different reactions. Are you British? Do you find pop art interesting? Do you like graphic design? Do the queen and the flag and this particular arrangement impart any meaning to you? Do they make you think of your friend? Do they remind you of a favorite song, or memory, or emotion? When you walk by or glance at it does it make you think of any of these things? If your answer is no, I’d consider taking it down. Put something there that does make you feel something.

Like many others here, I think the prints are ok but the placement is not the best.

Idea #1 Move all the prints around:
Portrait triptych to the left wall
Woman’s painting to the middle wall
Queen/flag prints to the right wall

Idea #2 – Create a collage of prints
Arrange on the back wall, from left to right:
the Queen’s, then the Woman’s print in the center and then the triptych to its right, but arranged vertically.

Note: the spacing between the 4 components of the Queen’s prints needs to be exact, otherwise the presentation becomes sloppy.

I was thinking of taking them down and putting this up instead. It’s getting framed right now.

Thoughts?

@simpleD

OK you are new, but Fluther is an opnion website.

asmonet's avatar

@90s: But, that was his opinion.

90s_kid's avatar

Well duh.
I knew someone would say that.
I am just saying that he said that “Unless you are going to invite us to live with you, it doesn’t matter if we like them or not.”
That cancels out everything that any of us are going to say on this thread.

asmonet's avatar

Not really, he’s just clarifying his position that he stated later. It’s an opinion that supports his view that the asker should get art that makes them feel something, not a piece that pleases others because ultimately it’s their home. I think you just misinterpreted his intentions.

Hah! Like the Fin print much more. This Flickr set may interest you.

I recently hung this up on my wall: http://brightkite.com/objects/10d1b6c2c57811dd80fe003048c0801e

It’s a WWII motivational poster that was made for distribution in the event that Britain was invaded (obviously, they were never used).

asmonet's avatar

@richard: Where’d you find that print? That’s fantastic. I love WWII posters, propaganda, etc.

richardhenry's avatar

@asmonet: Small book shop called “Barter Books”. You can probably find it somewhere online, maybe eBay.

I really, really like the queeny prints, for what it’s worth.

I would move the Munch to the bedroom. mmmmm and paint the bedroom lilac….

And get that great “Keep Calm and Carry On” or another hard-edged graphic, maybe
with writing maybe without, quite a bit larger than the queeny prints, and put that big
new piece on the end wall where it could anchor that wall’s big strong shape. Yes, center at eye level. More the queen and her flags to the wall on the left.
This end of the room would be a very, very nice composition. Also, move put one or two larger objects on the desk. A big bowl contrasted with something low, like… an African sculpture of a crocodile.

This is fun. I sure am never going to ask fluther about MY room. It’s a hodgepodge.
Yours is like a little museum.

are they tiles? they are great! but then again, I’m a Scot so I like stuff like that.

if they are tiles, I’d pair them up with complementary colors and use them in the kitchen for a backsplash.

Thanks for the input..

They’re 1’ x 1’.

How about putting up a mirror in that spot instead; above the desk? With a brown frame of some sort?

Jude's avatar

Here's the apartment (still working on it). The leather futon by the patio doors is going. I'm just waiting for my brother to pick it up. I was thinking of getting the large "Fin" print framed and putting it over the sofa. I also purchased the "Keep Calm" in red and that is going on the bare wall when walking towards the kitchen. I was thinking about putting this print beside the "Fin" (to the left) on the other side of the block windows. http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=12831545

Now I am thinking that the mirror would be good above the desk?

@asmonet Thanks for your thoughts on my response. You’re right—I had no intention of negating anyone’s opinion. I understand that this is an opinion site. My point is that when it comes to living with a work of art or design, it’s your own opinion that matters. If 100 people like something, I might still not like it. Art is a very personal expression, both in the making and in the viewing.

But again, to be clear, it is invaluable to discuss work with others, to see how they read it, to reveal meaning, to uncover perspectives that we might not have seen. If I understand why someone likes a work, I might be encouraged to think about it a bit more.

i think it’s pretty awesome.

@simpleD: I completely agree. :)
