What are good laptops under $600?

Asked by electricsky (825points) January 7th, 2009

My mom wants a laptop, but she can’t afford anything over $600. Are there any really good laptops with a lot of RAM and hard drive space that she could get?

(And no netbooks/mini laptops. She can’t see the screens on them)

Buy a gently used one? A lot of people get a year or so out of a laptop and decide they need an upgrade, but really a good one should last 3+ years.

I got my HP Pavilion dv6000 on eBay for about $650 last year, including delivery and insurance. Works fine.

Whatever you do, don’t get an Acer. I bought one cause it was cheaper than the others and it never worked. I had it ‘repaired’ several times and even sent it back to Acer for repair and it still never worked. I gave up on it and threw it away.
Don’t buy an Acer!!!!

We just bought our daughter a Lenovo laptop for Christmas. It is very nice, and has all of the bells and whistles for a little over 600 ( delivery and tax included).
