Restless legs homeopathic remedy?

Has anyone found a natural way of treating or stopping restless legs?

My mother suffered from this and it ended up being somewhat eased by taking a multi-vitamin and baby aspirin before bed. But I just googled this and there are multiple sites listing many options for non-medicated relief. Hope you feel better!

@xxporkxsodaxx: But unlike homeopathic remedies, that would actually work.

I Dont know how to stop it (other than a medication) but I know some tips my Dad was given to slow down the effects, NO pop – between the aspartame and caffeine = more jitters. same with any other caffeinated drinks – its going to increase the problem. Thats all I can think of at the moment. hope that helps some.

MY father was tortured with restless legs as a side effect of the meds he was taking for Parkinson’s. He tried everything, both traditional and non-traditional. Nothing worked but walking around. It left him very sleep-deprived. Sorry. It is awful.

@AllyMay, I don’t consume caffeine or soft rinks and I still have RLS. I have a strong hunch it has to do with low dopamine levels, not as a result of stimulants. maybe the lack of stimulants and so the lack of dopamine. this does not have to contradict what you said, though. perhaps the caffeine causes a temporary peak. or maybe he has mistaken something else for RLS.

(not saying this as an expert, BTW, only a RLS sufferer.)

A heating pad. I typically only get it at night when I lay down to go to bed, and the heating pad seems to always work.

My wife has terrible RLS, and has since she was a small child. It’s at its worst in bed and during long car rides. She takes Requip®, which worked at first but now doesn’t seem to do a damn thing. The only thing that seems to help now is walking. I wish there was a way to stop it so I could sleep through the night.

I have suffered on and off with RLS which started during my pregnancy, which was 17 years ago, to the present. I tend to go through cycles of when I have it and when I don’t. When I do have RLS, it only occurs in the evening, like watching TV and going to bed. Back when I was pregnant eating raisins helped but not any more.

I searched high and low on the internet for SOMETHING to help relieve my constant and annoying urge to flex and move my legs. Then one day, I read on a forum, that applying Evening Primrose oil topically stops the urge. Even though I am the skeptic that I am, I figured what the heck. I happened to have some Evening Primrose oil capsules on hand, so I took a needle, popped a hole, squeezed out the oil and applied it to the back of my legs (1–2 capsules, mostly mid thigh and down to the calves, that’s where I feel the urge most).

Well low and behold, much to my surprise, within 20 minutes or much less, it actually worked. Now I’m not saying this will work for others because everyone is different but it sure worked for me. I’d say it’s worth a shot.

By the way, ingesting the Evening Primrose oil capsules, even though “it does a body good”, didn’t seem to relieve my RLS. It only worked topically.

You can buy Evening Primrose oil in bottle form but it can be hard to find and it can be expensive. Not saying capsules are cheap either. But it’s easily found in capsule form. I hope this remedy will help others. Good Luck!

Hmm, I get that occasionally. I thought maybe it was caused by the anti-seizure medication I was on. I no longer take that particular drug (I feel it was a misdiagnosis since I am not epileptic, nor am I prone to seizures) because of the other side effects I didn’t like that I got from it. Maybe it is the caffeine that causes my RLS, as I consume a lot of caffeine.

Sometimes I can feel it coming on, as there is a pinprick of an itch at the top of my foot, and then the sudden leg jerk. Sometimes it keeps my wife awake. She said one night it was so bad she thought I was having a seizure. That was why I thought it was the pills I was on. I still get the RLS, so maybe it is caused by something else.

I am all for alternative medicine if it actually works, but homeopathic (water has memory) is junk science.

My father, my little brother and I all have this. With me stress makes it worse. It is worse when my insomnia is worse – or maybe the RLS makes my isomnia worse?? I have never tried the medication. The only relief I get is to get up out of bed and walk around -rub my legs for awhile to calm it down.

We always called it growing pains when I was little. It sure seems to be hereditary!!

I believe that changing to eating healthy foods, more fruits, fish and vegetables, and drinking six to eight glasses of water a day, (no soft drinks) has made a difference with mine.
