General Question

So, I'm looking for this purple poetry book.

Asked by lrk (757points) January 11th, 2009

It’s an anthology of poetry that’s also sort of a textbook. I can only recall that it had information about writing poetry (i.e., for a classroom setting) as well as an index of poetry by topic.

It was somewhere between 200 and 300 pages, in paperback, and it was purple.

It’s a long shot, but does anyone have any idea how I can figure out what book this was (repositories of lists of educational books, poetry buffs, websites where I can search for purple books)?

Thanks so much.

Did you get the book in a class? You may be able to contact the school or instructor. Or even something as small as a copyright date? Publisher? Or a few poems inside it?

Covers change with reprints or revisions.

Here are two classic books that fit your description. Both available in revised versions at Amazon

The Book of Forms: A Handbook of Poetics by Lewis Turco
Poetic Meter and Poetic Form by Paul Fussell

And this one:

Sound and Sense; An Introduction to Poetry by Laurence Perrine.

The cover of the seventh edition, in paperback, is hunter green.
