No… not really.

We will never find a way to prevent death. The rest is just details. Don’t smoke. Put on suntan lotion. Other than that I wouldn’t worry. If it’s how you go, it’s how you go.

I’m a survivor. It was not so bad, in hindsight. I am thrilled to be here.

Isn’t there a statistic out there that says 1 out of 4 people develop cancer in their lifetime?

LKidKyle1985's avatar

I dont obsess over it because I know something is going to kill me. If cancer is what kills me, that is not the worst way to go I suppose.

missjena's avatar

some statistics say 1 out of 2 people.

In our society… probably. Breathing air probably will give you cancer.

If you live long enough you will probably develop some cancerous cells.

If it’s interrupting your life, you should talk to a doctor. Not everyone feels that way, that level of worry is not normal.

I hope to, one day. I’ve bagged a couple Aries, a Taurus and at least one Virgo. My wife’s a Leo and my ex was a Capricorn Don’t think I’ve had a Gemini or Cancer yet, though.

No. Since the #1 cause of death in the US is heart disease, I don’t think so.

AstroChuck's avatar

@shi- Didn’t cancer surpass heart disease briefly at one point a few years ago?

Bluefreedom's avatar

I sure hope not. I already have Type II diabetes and I don’t need any further ailments to worry about.

I’ve heard 1 in 2. Also this generation up and coming is going to be the first in human history to have shorter lives than their parents.

I point my finger at all of the plastics we wrap our processed foods in, all of the chemicals we surround ourselves with.

What do you mean, Missjena, when you say the thought interrupts your life?

@NaturalMineralWater FYI, the newest research actually suggests that suntan lotion does not decrease the risk of cancer. Burning’s clearly bad, but shade + Vitamin D may be better than the false security + chemicals of suntan lotion.

We’re all going to die of something. You really need to talk to a therapist about your cancer/lymph node obsession.

It got me once an I’m only 22 so it’s probably going to be my fate! – save being hit by a bus! (touch wood, touch wood!). But seriously, like some others have said, don’t focus on how your going to leave the world and just concentrate on what you want to do/achieve, and get on with doing it!

missjena's avatar

@btko- which generation exactly are you talking about? Also what I mean by interrupting my life is I know so much about cancer (too much ) and I don’t see how anyone CANT get it. It scares me and every little change in my body I think omg could it be?

shilolo's avatar

@missjena. I urge you, again, to seek help for your obsession. It is unhealthy, and likely reflects a problem that can be successfully treated.

btko's avatar

@missjena, as I understood it – it would be 5–10 year olds right now give or take 2 years.

Men past the age of 80 typically have prostate cancer. However, it is usually so slow growing that most die of other causes.
