Can you think of movies or media clips that deal with either abortion or euthanasia?

Asked by juniper (1910points) January 22nd, 2009

I’m having my ESL students research these two issues for an essay, and I’d like to preface the unit with some visual sources.

Can you think of any media clips (popular, documentary, news, etc.) that deal with either or these topics?

the movie “Bella” deals with the abortion topic, and about a girl deciding wether or not she wants to have an abortion, its a really good movie, but it kinda drags but its perfect for referencing in an essay. I hope this helps!

In the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High the character Stacey Hamilton (played by Jennifer Jason Leigh) aborts an unwanted pregnancy. In the sitcom Maude Bea Arthur’s character has an abortion.

Whose Life is it Anyway and Million Dollar Baby both deal with euthanasia.

The Island (sort of)
Logan’s Run (forced euthanasia)

Oh, and Blade Runner (again, sort of )

There is an 80s movie called The Last American Virgin that deals with abortion. Also, If These Walls Could Talk is about abortion in the 60s, 70s and 80s.

There’s that scene in Juno. Also, on the Sarah Silverman show there’s a funny (depending on your definition of funny) montage of visits to an abortion clinic.

Edited to add- the Sarah Silverman one may not be anywhere near appropriate for students.

juno, obviously.

i really enjoyed the message in Bella, it was good to see someone else has seen it, @cordovanessa, for the rebuttal 4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days is one to see, and the last one which comes to mind is, High Fidelity, one of my favorite films comedic, yet John Cusack deals with his girlfriends abortion that she had with out informing him..hope those answer your inquiry.
