I had to think about it a bit, but I think I can say, equally happy. I love working for strong inspiring women and I like working with fair, insightful men. I’ve done both and I got a lot from both.

I think the key is that I want to know that my boss knows more than me and that I can learn something from him/her. I like to see my supervisors as mentors.

I’m a female by the way.

Well, I’m a student, so I’ll answer this in terms of “profs” not bosses.

I like male profs the best. I feel that they are concise, logical, and a little more inappropriate than my female profs. (good for laughs, male profs can be SOO funny) I’ve had a couple of female profs and they weren’t particularly interesting…they droned on and one about stupid things and talked about their kids a lot (one of my pet peeves is when people talk about their kids incessantly)

Now, I’m sure I’ve just been unlucky and there are many great female profs out there…but so far, in my experience, not yet. Although there is one who is AWESOME in Neuroscience, but I don’t have her yet.

I’m a female too.

NOBODY SHOULD ENJOY WORKING FOR ANY BOSS!!! WORKERS OF THE WORLD UNITE!!! EAT THE RICH!!!

I’ve had bad male bosses and a good one. I’ve had indifferent and good female bosses. On the whole, I think I’d rather have a female boss, but really, what I want is a good boss.

I’m male.

Blondesjon's avatar

@daloon…As a male do you really like having a boss at all?

wundayatta's avatar

Well, the good boss is the boss I hardly ever see. He leaves me alone to do my work. So, it’s like having no boss at all.

Do you really like work?

I’m female.

That said, I’ve preferred my male bosses/profs. They seem to be able to distance themselves from situations and take things not as personally. Also, male bosses don’t seem to devolve into cattiness. My female bosses always seem to have a competitive edge with me that males do not. (I also get along better with guys in general, although I would prefer to see a female doctor.)

Of course, there are good and bad of both – this is all just in general.

Huh, I’m male and my experience has been exact laureth’s but with the opposite gender.

I have definitely enjoyed my female bosses better for exactly the reasons stated above.

Perhaps it’s less about the boss and more about the boss-employee relationship. Gender seems to affect that, no matter how much we try to ignore that at work.

I just want a boss that knows how to do his (or her) job, but for the record I’ve had more shitty female bosses than male.

@Blondesjon
I like working for my bosses right now. I mean that I don’t hate it. It’s not untolerable. Yeah, weak positives ftw!

I am female. I’ve worked for mostly great male bosses (and one awful one). The two female bosses I’ve had weren’t terrible or anything, I think I just generally prefer the company of men.

tinyfaery's avatar

In general, I prefer the company of women, but I’ve had pretty cool male bosses. It’s really a case by case basis.
I don’t like to generalize.

I am female and I have had better male bosses. They have always been easier to manipulate :)

Whoops. Female

The female bosses I have all have this competitive undertone to their control as a boss, but I have gotten close with female bosses before. And with males, they just like the control too damn much. Generally happier working for male bosses though, hmm.

I have had 2 female bosses and 2 male bosses and I totally have preferred the females, shockingly…

the women have seemed to be more honest and understanding and have treated me like an equal, whilst maintaining a healthy division in the hierarchy of roles.

the men have been manipulative, patronising, and bullying.

I believe i give people a lot of respect and I’m a very obedient and conscientious worker, perhaps it says more about how women and men respond to respect and my particular character rather than that women are better bosses – because most other people seem to think men are???

Or maybe i’ve just been unlucky…like my love life

mmm now there’s a thought…. maybe i should become a lesbian…or at least try it…. hmmmm

Makes no difference to me. I’ve had good and bad employers of both genders.

Well of the three jobs ive had , 2 of my bosses were male and one female. I loved working with the male bosses, but hated the female boss. I wouldnt rake this up under females being less enjoyable to work under, that lady was just a bitch. It really doesnt matter male or female, just be nice :)

im a male.

I have had many bosses over many years. I have generally been happier working for smart, capable bosses than for stupid, incompetent ones, regardless of sex.

The only exception was the stupid, incompetent genuinely nice guy who didn’t try to succeed by making others look bad. Instead he had the sense to know that if he just got out of my way and let me at it, I would keep quiet and make him look good, and I did..

emilyrose's avatar

I’m female. In some ways I have liked the male bosses better because there seems to be less drama. I like some level of hierarchy in the workplace. However, I have had excellent female bosses as well. I appreciate that the female bosses better understand personal issues. I have overall had really wonderful supervisors so hard to say…..
