Room for a "Best Answer" feature?

Asked by ark_a_dong (601points) January 29th, 2009

Do you think that Fluther should have an automatic tally of the best answers, and then either put the answer with most points at the top (like Yahoo! Answers) or highlight it or something? Or perhaps, be able to filter through a thread by both date and amount of “Good Answer” points?

It seems to me like a good idea, especially when you’re searching for a question that’s already been asked and then have to read through the thread.

Way too much like Y! A.

I don’t think Fluther should do anything that that other poor site does (shudder)!

Also, one person’s best answer is another person’s crappy or unhelpful answer.

No.

Besides, combing through the threads is half the fun!

No. It’s not necessary and it takes away from the charm of fluther.

Seems to me that there’s value in making up your own mind, not in believing what the hoi polloi think is the best answer. Not that hoi or polloi are on fluther, but you know what I mean. Or, maybe you don’t. Maybe someone else should tell you that I’m right. Sheesh!

I am rarely right, but often verbose… Logorrhea, thy name is Daloon

I guess you guys are right, especially when you consider the amount of questions that ask for opinion, rather than a direct method on how to do something for example.

I wondered this initially, after using the likes of yahoo answers. But I feel that Fluther is fine the way it is. The answers are presented in the style of a forum thread with users sometimes bouncing off eachother’s responses. I like that.

No, because a question could have 100 great answers or 10, depending on how many people answered. More isn’t better, it’s just more.

Nope, I don’t think we want that. We are not winners and losers. Encouraging a competitive attitude would spoil our good time.

This format feels more like a conversation, which I like very much. I’d rather it didn’t change.

Fluther is mostly opinion questions; I don’t think it makes sense to highlight the most loved opinion to the detriment of the others.

I like the conversant nature of the current style. Though it does perhaps make questions less useful for archival purposes. Y! A has been responsible for a great many useful responses to questions I ask Google, so it does have that advantage.

No, no, no! For all the reasons above.
Not to mention the fact that often the quip w/ the most GAs got them for being funny, not necessarily useful.

Ummm… no.

I assume by “best” you mean the ones that got the most votes. But sometimes people get that for a witty response, not necessarily for accuracy. And of course you’d need to include the question.

I have found that most posts are not of the “What’s the capital of Cambodia?” type, or people would just google it. People use fluther to ask things such as “what do you think I should do about my boyfriend’s smelly armpits?” or “should bestiality be legalised?” and you end up with opinions, rather than facts. And several interesting discussions about deodorants and the joys of caninophilia.

Don’t expect changes soon. Everyone here is stuck to traditions and don’t want to try anything new. I do not like updates myself, anytime, but if that did happen (without any dates) and someone said ” @Sample123 blablabla” and you’ll be like “But Sample123 answered after he said that…what the…?”
Highlight on the other hand would work.
