Are you appreciating the new Fluther search?

Asked by richardhenry (12692points) February 4th, 2009

Apparently it can actually find things, and not just spit random questions at you.

ZOMGGGG it actually works YAAAAAAAY

i no longer have to try and remember that one random word in the question title that differentiates it from the rest when searching.

cdwccrn's avatar

Haven’t tried it yet.

Hells yes! I haven’t tried it yet, and I’m already super-happy! Very appreciative!!
<—says thank you to all those who made it possible to find search and find on fluther. THANK YOU! :-D

My little Fluther brain is trying to grasp the idea that this actually works. Holy cowz!

Very nice feature. Thanks Fluther Gods.

fireside's avatar

Yeah, I’ve already used it 2–3 times.
it’s great!

TaoSan's avatar

Oh, haven’t even noticed, wow it works. Nicely done!

Unfortunately I’m a bit anti-Googl’ish :/

Nimis's avatar

@TaoSan Well then you should lurve it-no more needing to Google for Fluther questions!

asmonet's avatar

I actually used Google to search Fluther half the time anyway. I think it’s more accurate, but I preferred how the old search function looked.

Milo has 6 pages of hits. Maybe he does deserve his own teeny little house

Wow, the Fluther search is very nice, and comprehensive too. I couldn’t believe the large variety of material it found on each of my searches. Good stuff.

fireside's avatar

@asmonet – this is so much better than Google because you can get accurate results without having to add “fluther.com” to your keyword string.

update

drove it, shook it, rattled it, yip it’s great!

marinelife's avatar

I’ll get back to you on that after I try it out.

At first I didn’t realize it had changed. I just thought I was getting better at it. Anyway, I have used it more successfully lately, so yes!

Back when I joined and tried to use it, I thought it was just searching on those question keywords we put in as labels, but now it seems to search on question content and even answer content, as it should to rightly be called a search. Is it powered by Google now?

fireside's avatar

~ I’m not sure who it is powered by.
The Fluther blog article is pretty vague : )

Jeruba's avatar

Ah! Thanks, I didn’t see that. The article does say (at the ‘lesser-known startup’ link) that it is a Google engine. Hurray!

Dog's avatar

Just checked it out and WOW- big improvement. Great job!

Knotmyday's avatar

I. Love. It.

yesssss!

tiffyandthewall's avatar

i haven’t tried it yet, but i’m looking forward to using it. i’m always hesitant to ask a question because i have terrible search skills as it is, and always think that even though i just looked for every keyword i can think of, i’ve missed some obviously similar question. also, i’m too damn lazy to look through every single question i get to find mine.
but this is exciting.(:

marinelife's avatar

I am, I am, I am!

No more going to Google to try to find things!

I found the cake man thread on the first try onight.

Thank you, thank you, great and wonderful Fluther Ozs.

Bri_L's avatar

I am not sure what you all are talking about, sorry. Can someone explain how to use it and where it is?

marinelife's avatar

@Bri_L Top rh corner of the page (labeled Google custom search). Just plug in whatever search term you want: user name, key word from a question, etc.

Bri_L's avatar

OH, THAT search. DUH.

Let me just type in “naked moronic homer icons here…..”

Yup I came up

Thanks!
