Star Light, Star Bright?

Asked by Dorkgirl (1496points) February 4th, 2009

Do you still recite “Star light, star bright” when you are out in the evenings and see the first star? Do you make a wish? I walk my dog every evening and when the sky is clear, I find myself reciting this little poem then making a wish. It seems silly but sort of comforting too.

No, but I think it is a charming idea. The skies where I live are spectacular when they are clear. I usually spend a lot of time looking at constellations.

Where I live there’s too many lights near the ground for the stars to be seen. :(

I make a wish when I toss a coin in a fountain. Why not wish on a star? It is cheaper than a Lotto ticket.

My daughter does every time she looks up at the stars. I’ll admit that I do wish when I see a falling star.

I do sometimes, especially when I’m with my kids. We don’t see stars often, since we live in an urban area. When we’re out in the country, we take notice, and sometimes we honor it with that ditty.

I do in my head.
When I’m alone it occasionally sneaks out for the world to hear.

I take a lot of midnight walks.

My teenage self would feel too silly doing that now. But I do remember when I was twelve, at a summer camp in the south of France. We were sleeping out of doors, and the skies were incredibly clear, at least to a boy from Chicago. I counted at least six shooting stars before I fell asleep, and on each one I wished that my mom, who was flying in that night from the U.S., would make the trip safely.

only once and its one of those memories that you think of and gives you the chills haha.

@Jayne: It wasn’t just the fact you’re from Chicago. The south of France is amazing at night. I was there when I was thirteen and I was blown away.

yes I do, and I always wish on shooting stars, too! :)

i do! i don’t think i’ll ever really grow out of it.
my friends are all wish opportunists too, so whenever we’re together, my one friend usually does the little poem out loud for us, and then we all kind of silently make our wishes. haha. i always feel really silly making wishes on stars – and railroad tracks for that matter – but i’m not taking any chances that i’ll miss out on something (;

Right now, it is Planet light, Planet bright because Venus appears at dusk, well before any stars appear. (Clear and dark skies here.)
