What is your experience with bondage tape?

Asked by KatawaGrey (21483points) February 4th, 2009

My boyfriend and I recently purchased some bondage tape (lavender, we’re on something of a purple kick) and I’m just wondering if anyone has any experience with it. Is it really only self sticking? Better than handcuffs? Worse? Are there any other practical uses (or non-practical ones)?

Does it hurt when you get it off?

If it’s the stuff I’m thinking of, it’s basically the same as the non-stick bandages they use in some hospitals now. It just sticks to itself, not your skin. If put on properly, it would be more comfortable than handcuffs, and can potentially hold just as well. As for other practical uses, it can be used for bandaging (ex. hold gauze in place instead of sticky tape, in some applications).

Why the hell does bondage tape have a scent? Does it really need to smell nice as you spank a restrained person with a riding crop?

Like many bondage-specific products, the tape can be purchased for a lot less in other contexts. A great google search term for you to try is pervertibles, sometimes spelled pervertables—lots of people have great ideas about how to make common household stuff into tools & toys for kink, at much lower costs than what the specialized stuff costs.

Also, handcuffs aren’t actually that useful because they’re so uncomfortable (unless they’re the kind lined with soft leather, fabric or fake fur). Generally you want comfy restraints that you can tolerate for a long time so you can concentrate on whatever other sensations are happening :) (if you don’t know about Blowfish yet, they have excellent products & descriptions)

I’m not specifically familiar with the tape you’re referring to, but is sounds like vet wrap. If it is indeed a similar product, there is no adhesive whatsoever. The material sticks to itself because of the irregularities in the material. It’s quite effective, but if you pull very much, it will tighten and bunch up.

horse tape comes in many pretty colors, just beware the horse-face female

Thanks guys. We’ve tried handcuffs (with faux fur for comfort) and this seems less painful and also more flexible.

@madcapper: Lavender is a color in addition to a scent.

it’s also a flowering plant…

it works pretty well, but it really isn’t reusable. I think scarves, ropes, silk rope, etc are better

If @Violet says it, believe it. I don’t know anything about this kind of tape, but I’d like to share an alternative that I invented a few years ago:

3” wide leather cuff, lined with sheepskin, velcro on the outside, stainless eye riveted to the leather, 2” tabs on the end. This provides about 15 in^2 of velcro surface area and a large degree of adjustabilty. Not strong enough for suspension (but we weren’t into that). These are secure, comfortable and can be instantly released (very important as my lady had unpredictable PTSD triggers). No keys to lose or knots to fumble with or having to resort to a knife; rip, rip, she’s out in 2 seconds. Any competant leather worker can make these easily.

I don’t sell these, nor have I seen anything really similar marketed. If anyone is interested in discussing design, PM me.
