What magazine costs $159 per issue?

Asked by BronxLens (1539points) February 10th, 2009

A friend saw a magazine priced for $159 (US) at a news stand. It covered various subjects (fashion, ecology, etc.)

I’d have to see it to believe it…there is no way I could justify a magazine at that price unless it had like gold trim on the outside of it (and even then I wouldn’t buy it).

Perhaps your friend is mistaken? Maybe it was $15.95?

SuperPlayboyGQWiredCatsInSweaters Monthly (w/ bonus CD)?

At a news stand? I think it’s safe to say it wasn’t $159.

Wilmott is actually touted as the world’s most expensive magazIne.
But it is a financial magazine priced at $695 for six issues.
That’s only $115.83 per issue-what a bargain!

@Nimis well let me fire up my baby seal juice powered Bentley Hummer and drive down through Moneytown and pick up two copies. Then i’ll burn some $100 bills, drink a gallon of expensive wine and wipe my ass with the constitution.

Perhaps $1.59? In which case it was a deal!

So far, my search show this magazine

as the most expensive – $695 for the subscription, 6 issues. Yikes!

@nimis lurve for “baby seal juice powered Bentley Hummer and drive down through Moneytown”

@Nimis – good find. I was typing, then had issues with my dog sitting too far over and landing on my keyboard!

There is another site that clarifies the rate, us “normal” people…we can get the subscription for about $325 or so. Woohoo!! That’s a bargain!

Nimis's avatar

@cak I think that’s the rate for professors and students.
But I doubt most students could even afford that.
That’s like 650 Jack In The Box tacos!

LOL! $325 for professors and students?! That’s a joke, right? My textbooks cost that much, and I can barely afford them.

cak's avatar

@nimis mmmmm….tacos….ok, now I know what we are having for dinner!

I was struggling just to pay for my books. No way I could afford that price. I’ll stick to my cheapy mags or online!

Subscribing to some academic journals can be expensive particularly if you live outside the country it’s published in. Tax deductable though.

This is the print equivalent of the “I’m Rich” iPhone app. and just as dickish.

I know a lot of porn mags cost $100—$300 an issue bit I haven’t heard of that one.

tennesseejac's avatar

@loser are those porn mags in 3D or something? that is ridiculous
maybe scratch and sniff?

eponymoushipster's avatar

@tennesseejac no, but they have a hole in the center.

loser's avatar

@TennesseeJack: I know it’s crazy! I used to wholesale them and it’s amazing how many people bought them!!!

punkrockworld's avatar

it must have been for the subscription, unless they used golden paper which is very unlikely

loser's avatar

Nope, just some high gloss paper and some extremely graphic photos!!!

Many professional journals (magazines) are very expensive. A single copy of the “European Food and Feed Law Review” will cost you 74.9 Euros ($100), plus shipping.
