Cell Phones and Dialing Long Distance?

Asked by EMS7780 (1points) February 14th, 2009

Cell phones have supported non-1 dialing in the U.S. for a long time. They automatically route long distance as needed.
But do the rates differ when NOT dialing the 1 before the area code when calling long distance? My husband says they DO NOT charge long distance rates if dialing from cell to cell. I say, any long distance call requires a 1 before dialing the area code and LD rates apply. Who knows the answer?

In my own, personal experience, the 1 isn’t required before I make a long-distance call and I’m not charged long-distance rates.

That said, it could vary between cellphone companies. I have T-Mobile.

i think it’s the same thing, either way. I have some #s with 1 and some without and my bill doesn’t differentiate. (i have sprint)

It doesn’t matter, what matters is if you are roaming (which most plans are nationwide now) or if you go over your free minutes. A call is a call on a cell phone, local and long distance are the same.
