How do I cure chronic insomnia without resorting to medication?

Asked by chevelle (53points) February 15th, 2009

I normally fall asleep easily but after 2 or 3 hours I’m wide awake and have difficulty getting back to sleep, and even then it’s only for another hour or so.

Do you masturbate, or have a sexual partner who is willing to, ahem, lend you a hand?

@tb1570 spectacular.

you might start trying to set a pattern before you go to bed. no tv or computer, read a book, take a warm shower. start telling your body it’s almost sleep time.

cut back caffeine intake as well (like, none after 1pm if you’re suspectable to it in a big way).

Diet and exercise. Get rid of processed foods, caffine after 2:00 PM and eat at least 5 cups of fruits and vegetables a day. Get into a regular exercise routine, even if it’s just 1/2 hr walk a day. More than just your sleep habits will improve.

What @Judi said is the best start. And cut out any alcohol after dinner, and no sugary snacks after dinner.

If that doesn’t all help, 3 mg. of melatonin 8 hrs before you want to get up.
