Am I the only one who is finding it harder to respect PETA?

PETA has once again gone over the top with this one. For the 2009 Westminster Dog Show, PETA protesters showed up dressed as the KKK to show that the AKC supports a “dominant bloodline.”

Now, I am all one for animal rights. I am against sport hunting, animal cruelty, and I believe Michael Vick deserves to rot in jail. But this has gone too far. Every time PETA has a decent persuasive argument, they go and ruin it with tactics like this. I wouldn’t mind it if they did something more direct and subtle, but they go out of their way to be radical. I don’t believe in killing animals for fur, but throwing buckets of blood on people (real or not) is crazy.

I have talked to people on both sides of the political spectrum and every one of them agrees PETA is going off the deep end. Right now, I find it very hard to respect and recognize them as an organization. To me, they’re just a bunch of radical idiots who don’t know how to properly persuade people to take their side.

Does anyone else agree, or do you believe they are fighting a righteous cause?

I’d sure like someone to explain these tactics. PETA sure isn’t persuading me.

…I never respected PETA to begin with.

I believe based on what they did they are going off the deep end. I have never respected them. They don’t care what they do, They will do anything to prove their cause, even if its at risk to other people.

Are you friggin’ serious?? WTF is up with PETA?

I can’t stand them. Their ideals are fine. Their tactics make me sick.

I HATE PETA AND I HATE THE ALF (ANIMAL LIBERATION FRONT) EVEN MORE!!!!

PETA has been putting out some crazy press releases and advertisements for a long time. This doesn’t change anything.

I love the taste of animals. Sorry PETA.

Peaople who Eat Tasty Animals

It always amuses me when they free the lab and domestic animals, and the animals die in the wild because it’s winter, they don’t know how to survive, or they get eaten. Doesn’t seen very ethical.

If I were to see those faux KKK people. I would have punched the guy. I have no respect for PETA whatsoever.

Not to change my own topic, but I recently heard that PETA wants to promote vegetarianism as a way to end world hunger. How is this possible? Wouldn’t we be taking away food from these people if we didn’t allow them to eat meat?

Enzo, the theory is that all the corn (or chicken manure) that they feed the cattle and pigs would go further feeding more people, because it takes several pounds of feed to make one pound of meat. I don’t think they realize, though, that in some less-than-optimal land, you can feed a bunch of goats but you can’t grow a food crop that people can eat.

i think PETA is a good eye-opener to animal cruelty, however i definitely think they go too far. not to say that non-human animal lives’ are less news-worthy than human, but i think that if you want respect you should give it.
i’m a vegetarian, and i used to be really into PETA until i realized that they just harass everyone for the most part. you’re not going to convert people by being a jackass.
they give a really bad name for vegetarians/vegans/animal rights activists. we’re not all assholes.

PETA wants people to call fish sea kitties because “who would harm a sea kitty?” http://www.peta2.com/sea_Kittens/ Colbert put it best when he said that he was glad to eat what he now calls “land fish” (kittens), “feild potatoes” (cows), and “sky nachoes” (owls). My respect for PETA is growing.

PETA are crazy.
Respct for those who believe and stand for something, but NO respect for those invading and disturbing others lives.

Has anyone ever seen whale wars? It shows on Animal Planet no surprise there!

Effectively, the show is about PETA members who attack whalers in the pacific (I think) claiming that they are acting illegally. In fact, the governments of these people have come out and said outright that these people are doing nothing wrong.

Moreover, PETA is the group that is really out of line here. They are terrorists. We all know the US’s stance on them ;)

PETA is by nature illegitimate.

Yes,

I am very adamant about animal cruelty, and firmly believe that sanctions should be steep on those “abusing” animals we consume.

Having been exposed to PETA once or twice I do dare to state that there is a whole bunch of people there that use “animal rights” as a lame excuse to act out against society.

Kind of a carte blanche to be an “enfant terrible”.

I think there’s only one thing more despicable than being cruel to helpless animals, that would be abusing the existence of animal cruelty for self promotion.

Running around in KKK outfits has nothing to do with raising awareness. It’s every individual in one of those robes hogging personal “attention”.

Animals should have the right to pick their spokespeople.
