Is this the last years for the Oscars?

I can’t confirm that it is false, but I haven’t heard anything along the lines of those rumors, and I spend a good bit of time surfing the news on the web (as I’m sure most of us do).

What did you hear? What was the rumored reason? I know the economy sucks, but I don’t think that has stopped Hollywood from continuing its glamourous lifestyle.

i heard from a librarian (i work at a library) she saw on the news that it was their last year! :( i HOPE its not true. i love the Academy Awards!

I highly doubt that the Oscars are going away! They are the one awards show that everyone looks forward too. The Oscars are very popular. It’s not going anywhere. I would be very surprised.

Viewership is way down, but I find it unlikely that the Academy Awards would be leaving us. They’re very ingrained in the movie-making business.
Also, for ratings sake, wouldn’t it be advertised if this was the last year?

The Oscars are an institution, but have never pretended to be a fair and unbiased appraisal of what is the best in entertainment. But, the ceremony can be fun to watch.

On the other hand, I could do without all the other incestuous Hollywood award love-fests.

I would certainly hope it was over, but I don’t think it is. I haven’t heard anywhere that it was ending, if I had, I would be jumping for joy.
