At my high school it was cool to be smart and get good grades. It wasn’t cool to suck up to teachers. If you did both you were just a brown noser who happened to get good grades. Or maybe were getting good grades because you were a brown noser, in which case you were just a cheater!
It was also cool to be in the pep band, drive an eco-friendly car, and be friendly.
I loved my high school.

@Allie what is a brown noser?

Allie's avatar

@LouisianaGirl Brown noser (Shit is brown. If you kiss someones ass enough you just might get some shit on your nose. Your nose might be brown.)

I am the definition of cool.

The original Guns N Roses!! There was nothing cooler in my world back then…
Now my definition of cool is me & my husband!

@Allie Oh I wish my high school had been like that! Being brainy was not cool when I went to high school. Only the jocks, the cheerleaders and the rich preps were popular. The stoners (freaks, we called them) were cool.

My definition today is very different. A cool person is someone who is relatively laid back, doesn’t sweat the small stuff, and is a decent human being.

@Allie hahaha thats hillarious havent heard that one yet but that is just too funny!!!!

Then: Someone able to do well in shop class while being simultaneously stoned,

Now: Someone who is unfazed by the seemingly endless drama that clings to other less-cool folk like flies on a cow.

just being yourself 100% of the time

To the stoners, it was cool to smoke pot.

To the cheerleaders, it was cool to kiss ass.

To the jocks, it was cool to score.

To the nerds, it was cool to, uh, study?

Now? It’s cool to be responsible and have a kick ass family that loves you.

P.S. – I was part of only two of the groups I listed. I got (get) good grades and I was (am) friendly.

Where I went to school, I think it was a case of the louder, the cooler….....personally I was more in to the anti-cool movement (skipping class, last minute homework, still getting same grades as the brown-nosers)

It’s not really a matter of coolness to me, just being confident with yourself and not trying to be something that you’re not.

I can’t speak for the rest of my school, but I think they at the least respect those qualities.

arnbev959's avatar

It’s not really a factor at my high school. Everyone has their group and that’s cool to them. I guess you could say it’s cool to march to the beat of your own drum.

Cool? My ex-wife is a cold bitch. Does that count as cool?

Gunther is pretty cool, but I’m not sure if that’s the kind of cool you’re looking for here.

My definition of cool was hanging out with friends that I had many things in common with and not having to pretend to be something I wasn’t. I saw all kinds of people doing that so that they could try ‘fit in’ with the snobbish cliques that were prevalent in my high school. Those people were definitely not cool.

My definition of cool today is my great marriage, alot of excellent friends, a career that I seriously enjoy, and a positive outlook on my life and my future.

Then to pretend to be comfortable in my skin
Now to Be comfortable in my skin.

A frizzer is cool.

I really don’t know what’s “cool.” I have my group of friends, so I couldn’t care less about what other people think of me.

cookieman's avatar

The frizzer is a cold, cold mistress.

aprilsimnel's avatar

OK, man, like, dig it, being yourself is what’s cool.

If you ask my grandsons, “Boppy’s Cool!”

My definition of cool was to be popular enough to feel confident and to get a date (and/or laid).

“What is Hip?”
as performed by Tower of Power, 1972
———————
So ya wanna dump out yo’ trick bag.
Ease on in a hip thang,
But you ain’t exactly sure what is hip.
So you started to let your hair grow.
Spent big bucks on your wardrobe.
Somehow, ya know there’s much more to the trip.

What is hip?
Tell me, tell me, if you think you know.
What is hip?
If you’re really hip,
the question, “Will it show?”
You’re into a hip trip.
Maybe hipper than hip.
What is hip?

I guess some thangs never change – only the slang.

i don’t think i’ve ever had a definition of cool. but this reminds me of the Cool Kids song, a lil bit cooler. it’s so awesome haha, it’s about how you’ll do something because you’re into it, and the same people who are like “that’s so lame blahblahblah” will be doing it next week if they see more people doing it.

TheDeadWake's avatar

Cool is being confident in who you are, but humble enough to know you’re no better than everyone else.

dylzaree's avatar

when you say cool it’s what is in and what is hot and what is updated and totally now.

LouisianaGirl's avatar

Everyone has something about them that is cool!!!!
