…and what is the personality of a brunette? and does it matter if it’s natural? What’s the personality of people with straight hair vs. those with curls?

I don’t get what this question is aiming at – I really don’t think physical appearance determine’s personality. How you feel about your appearance certainly plays a part, but…

hmm..

Redheads I find tend to be shy, at least if they’re girls.

I really want to know if it’s true that a long/big chin denotes intelligence, as I have one and I find myself to be pretty intelligent. I heard it from my friend’s drunk uncle though, so I dunno haha..

Posture, grooming , eye contact , 20 seconds is all it takes to make an impression, good or bad.

I think someone’s shoes tell a lot about that person. You wear one or two pairs for like 6 months, so it’s long term. When they buy the shoes, they’re thinking “I’m gonna wear these ntil next season, I better get something good.”

susanc's avatar

@mcbealer: so what do scrubby fingernails tell you about, well, my character?

jonsblond's avatar

@Mtl_zack I’m sorry, but that’s so superficial. Shoes? I’m one of the coolest girls that you could meet, but my budget does not allow me to buy new shoes when they are desperately needed. You are going to judge me based on my shoes?

jonsblond's avatar

@susanc Scrubby fingernails tell me that you are a hard worker! :)

ark_a_dong's avatar

@jonsblond

You could still infer that that person doesn’t care about superficial things, especially if you know that person is wealthy.

susanc's avatar

@jonsblond: very kind. I think your shoes are great, by the way.

Smile, or lack thereof.

@susanc ~ the questions asks for personality clues, not character

@ark_a_dong I would say if a person is wealthy and they’re scrubby… I’m not the cleanest cut and no where near the wealthiest – more on the low-end of middle class in terms of income – guy, but I try to look presentable, keep myself clean at least and if I see a person who I know has a lot of money and they’re a grub I’d be more inclined to believe they don’t give a shit simply by virtue of the size of their bank account and not because of some righteous elevated sense of self.

You can be a scrubby hipster or a trustafarian but you don’t have to smell like a hippie.

To answer the question: I think it’s been mentioned already but the things that give me the best, immediate impression of a person are their diction, body language, eye contact and the way they hold their face – a more subjective and not as consistently reliable aspect that @Mtl_zack mentioned was shoes.

I noticed their was some opposition as it is a very superficial detail yet we live in a society where we have endless choices, and we define ourselves by the choices we make no matter what our intentions behind the choices are; shoes provide interesting cursory insight into a person. There are so many possible shoes to choose, the decision depends on one’s personal aesthetic sense and then it’s usually followed by budget – it says a lot about a person if they’re willing to shell out a bunch of cash for shoes when they don’t have much to begin with.

I like to assay a person with healthy palaver, if the person isn’t into it, can’t keep up, they’re probably not my kind of person. I like clever people. (I’ve never used palaver in a sentence before and I’ve been waiting a while to do so. :D )

Well, after reading the question I was about the scribe that one cannot correlate the two… However after reading some of the replies you good folks have helped me refine my ideas.
So lurve to @jonsblond for the “eyes” they do betray ones soul if you know what to look for.
Lurve for @mcbealer for frown/laugh lines, they betray ones demeanour.
And lastly, as an after thought, I’d say how they hold their head. Up, eye level or down. This can sometimes betray their current state of mind, (so the last Lurve is for you @Rambo).

When I’m doing a quick reading of someone’s state of mind, I want to see essentially two things: how engaged they are with their surroundings and how they’re responding to those surroundings.

Are they attuned to what’s going on around them, using their senses? I can’t see whether they’re listening or smelling, but I can see how they’re using their eyes. It’s possible to tell how strong the connection is between the eyes and the consciousness, whether the eyes are really drinking the world in or just on stand-by.

Reading the person’s response to his/her surroundings is more complicated. That will be most vividly reflected in the overall musculature of the face, and not any one feature. A smile, for instance, is not a “mouth” phenomenon, but requires the entire facial musculature to give it it’s many possible nuanced meanings. The brow, the muscles surrounding the eyes, those around the mouth, even the position of the jaw- these are all like letters in the visual language of feeling. Taken by themselves, they don’t mean much, but considered as a whole, they spell out a word.

(aside: I didn’t think it possible but I now have a new version of “definitely” to add to my list)

jonsblond's avatar

@susanc Why thank you! :)

Mtl_zack's avatar

@jonsblond Exactly. You bought those shoes knowing that you’re going to be wearing them for a long time, so if you bought one style over another, you must really like that style. I’m not jusging on how many shoes you have, but the style.

tiffyandthewall's avatar

i think physically, the only thing that can tell you something about someone’s personality is their posture. brown hair says nothing different than blonde, and short doesn’t say much different than tall.

jonsblond's avatar

@Mtl_zack My shoe style is this: athletic shoes for hiking, snow boots for winter, flip flops for summer, nice sandles for going out. All from Payless. Can you guess my personality from this?

Carol's avatar

Do physical characteristics reveal anything about someones personality? Aren’t we born with our physical characteristics?

Shoes tell alot about someone because they’re choices indicative of someone’s self-perception.

Mtl_zack's avatar

@jonsblond I can’t tell from that alone. Where do you live? What climate is it? What are the laces like? What sports do you play (in association with the athletic shoes)?
