General Question

So I'm having a little problem with my sleep pattern... maybe you can help?

Asked by poofandmook (17320points) February 24th, 2009

Tell me if a similar situation has happened to you, and if so, what you did to remedy it.

I’m used to going to bed in the ballpark of midnight-1am. Because I’ve been sick lately, I’ve been going to bed earlier since I’m so tired and worn out; anytime between 9–10:30pm. My body seems to treat that sleep like a nap, and I wake up around 1–2am and can’t get back to sleep. But if I try to stay up until my normal bedtime, it doesn’t work.

What can I do to keep this from happening? I’m sensitive to medications, so a pharmaceutical intervention would probably zonk me out too far to wake up on time.

Ugh I have a similar problem. I am tired all day long, and I get to bed and suddenly I can’t sleep. I just have no energy at all.

I take DayQuil in the morning, but that’s the only dose I take.

I kinda meant that the Medicine punches you and knocks you out, to kill the joke, but whatever. Don’t I take things the bad way all the time? ;)

Dayquil can cause that shortened sleep you describe.

Do you watch tv, listen to music or anything like that when you go to bed? You’d be suprised what people think is insomnia, when they just don’t turn of the tv :P

The body takes the sleep it needs, you don’t have to medicate yourself just because it’s more efficient. Go to bed when you’re tired and if you can’t sleep, get up, take a walk or something for 15 minutes, and then try again. Your body will stabilize itself in a couple of days.

@90s_kid yea sometimes but not all the time because you see it how we teenagers shed light on the subject.

Waking up too early is sometimes a symptom of depression.

I used to have the same problem. Just go to your regular grocery store and look for a ” sleeping time” tea. It works wonders!! You dont need any pills!! If you are unable to find it, visit a tea shop and ask for it. You will dream soundly. I swear by it!!!

If you’re trying to stay awake til your bedtime, stay awake by doing something active. If you’re working out, or out at a party or bar or what have you til midnight, you’ll keep yourself awake. Then you’ll return home and fall asleep at your usual time and sleep thru the night.

I’m having the exact same problem recently poof. So perhaps it’s some sort of stellar alignment or something. I even go to bed at around midnight and wake up at 2am thinking it was a nap. And then stay up until 6–7am, just lying in bed looking at the ceiling. And of course wake up again at 10–11am, knackered.

What I tried today was a short nap from 1–3pm. Hopefully that will keep me awake enough for tonight (I have this party where I’m supposed to go and sing a few songs) and then maybe I can sleep around 1–2am and not wake up again until morning.

I’ll tell you if it worked.

Marijuana helps you sleep. No lie.

It is prescribed to people who need help sleeping, also helps with appetite and for people who are doing chemotherapy

Also, try to work out.. maybe the reason that you cant sleep trough the night is because you are stil very active and need to use that extra energy.
A late night run before you got to bed followed by a hot bath should do the trick.
