Can’t imagine MAC is much different than most brands.

I use two of their compact eye shadows religiously….not sure of the “shelf life”, but I have used them daily for at least a year now and they still look almost brand new! That’s good stuff there.

I have stuff from all different brands that’s waaay over a year old too… (head hangs in germy shame). I wonder if the expiration dates on some stuff are just to get people buying more.

I have 2 friends who both have BAs in Chemistry. One is convinced expiration dates on that type of thing – make-up, vitamins, etc are complete crap, the other that they’re the real deal, so I don’t know what to think either…

Mascara, eyeliner, lipstick & lipliner & lipgloss are all going to be fine for up to 1 year. Mascara and any lip products will have a certain smell and texture when they start going bad. Eyeshadows are much longer lasting, I have MAC eyeshadows that are 5+ years old and still going strong. Thank god, because I have 6 MAC 15 pan palettes that are all full, and at $14.50 each, I’d be screwed if I had to replace them every year or 2.

@cheebdragon please correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t you only supposed to use a mascar for like 4 months then you have to throw it away or something?

If the texture hasn’t changed and the smell is the same, the mascara should be fine to use. I have some that are older than 1 year, and I’ve never had any problems. I’m not a professional, just a serious makeup addict.

@cheebdragon you’re probably right.

If you love something, u won’t have to change things up. The powders will stay good for over two years. The only thing you should replace every few months would be the mascaras because that’s just not sanitary.
