What is a good song about friendship?

Asked by Tennis5tar (1263points) October 18th, 2007

I’m planing on putting together a video of me and one of my really close friends from when we were little for her 18th. I need a good background song to go with it.

I don’t want it to be hip hop or hard rock or anything, the kind of music that could appeal to anyone. Thanks.

Muppets, I’m Going To Go Back There Someday – by Gonzo

Come and go with me, it’s more fun to share,
We’ll both be completely at home in midair.
We’re flyin’, not walkin’, on featherless wings.
We can hold onto love like invisible strings.

There’s not a word yet for old friends who’ve just met.
Part heaven, part space, or have I found my place?
You can just visit, but I plan to stay.
I’m going to go back there someday.

White Stripes: We’re Going to be Friends. Was in the movie Napolean Dynamite. Cute song.

Jack Johnson’s “We’re Going to Be Friends” is super sentimental and perfect for the early years. Off the Curious George soundtrack.

Also, “Good Friend” off Violent Femmes self-titled.

You’re the wind beneath my wings, from a tear-jerker I can barely remember

More on above, it’s a Bette Midler song. Here are some of the lyrics:

“Wind Beneath My Wings”

It must have been cold there in my shadow,
to never have sunlight on your face.
You were content to let me shine, that’s your way.
You always walked a step behind.

Did you ever know that you’re my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings.

I’m not so sure about “the Wind Beneath My Wings”: the implication of the lyrics is: “I am better than you/more famous than you/always in the limelight, and you supported me without getting any credit, thanks!” Not what I would want to give to one of my friends, it’s a little conceited.

Kind and Generous, by Natalie Merchant is a good one that’s not too drippy.

Sorry… “Good Friend” is off The Blind Leading the Blind.

Thanks for all the help guys. I think I’ve got all the songs I want to use:

You’re My Best Friend – Queen
We Are Going To Be Friends – The White Stripes
You’ve Got a Friend in Me – Randy Newman
Little Bitty Pretty One – Bobby Darin
You’ve Got a Friend – James Taylor
Then this one I’m not sure about but I love it: The Promise (from Napoleon dynamite)
