Dragon Quest V, Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy IV on Nintendo DS?

Asked by Triiiple (1356points) February 28th, 2009

Which game to get?

Ive played Chrono Trigger a long time ago but never got to finish it. The only Dragon Quest game ive played was Dragon Warrior: Monsters 2. Final Fantasy IV has come highly recommended but wanted to know how the others stack against them.

I’m one of the biggest Final Fantasy geeks ever and I would still recommend Chrono Trigger. I also played it back in the day and never finished it. It’s just a great RPG.

I’ve completed Chrono Trigger and the story was great! I couldn’t recommend it highly enough. The characters and combos are great and the abilty to continue back through the game with your same stats after you beat it is actually pretty fun.

I’m going to branch out here and recommend Dragon Quest: Rocket Slime. It’s one of the best RPGs for the DS. It’s great fun.

I would have to say Chrono Trigger myself, it stands as my all time favorite RPG ever. Whith over 10 alternate endings and so many different ways for the plot line to work out depending on how you play, it was an incredible game of its time. Created by the best all-star team of rpg creaters ever assembled, of course it would be great. Coupled with the ability to even customize your characters growth a bit with tab items found that increase specific stats, and one of the first games with “new game plus” ability allowing you to play through the second time with your characters you beat the game with before. Now with better graphics? And a story that really connects you to the characters?

Hands down a classic must buy.

CHRONO TRIGGER. This is my favorite game of all time. Just to put it into perspective… 1 out of my 2 cats is named after a character in Chrono Trigger. Trust your teach… chrono trigger is amazing. z28proximo nailed it… except for the new graphics bit… it still looks like it did on the SNES, aside from the addition of the full motion animated sequences from the PSX version (animated my the game’s art director Akira Toriyama of Dragonball fame) and the menus being on the second screen. GET IT.

Picked up FF4 but ive been tempted to do both, have some old games to trade in that have just been collecting dust. FF4 has been amazing, since i picked it up put down about 4 hours.

I’d say Chrono Trigger if you haven’t played it.

If it was Fina; Fantasy VI it would be a different story.

Hands down, Chrono Trigger. Especially since you never got to finish it before. Play it again, fall in love with the story all over, and finish it this time! :)

Chrono Trigger, then FFIV.

Right this second I have Chrono Trigger up on my emulator. Dalton just gave me sme shit and now I have to fight the Twin Golems. Oh noez!

It was my first RPG and I finish it at least twice a year since I was eight or so. I think over a hundred times total. Love love love.

<3 all the characters.

couldn’t have said it better myself asmonet. I decided to pick up Dragon Quest V this week and I’ve spent about 6 or so hours into it so far… and it is quite good too… not as good as Chrono Trigger of course… but it’s real nice, the updated visuals are well done and the character battle animations are second to none on the system.

Aw, Dragon Quest. <3
I’ve been plaing all my old snes games, is it sad I’ve spent the entire time without internet access playing original Harvest Moon, EVO, Bahamut Lagoon, Illusion of Gaia, Diddy’s Kong Quest, and of course Zombies Ate My Neighbors?

I didn’t think so.

Chrono trigger. Without a doubt.

It’s really basic and yet one of the best JRPG games around even today, the plot is complicated, the bosses are tough but not unbeatable, there’s a shitload of options and lots of party members for the time it came out.

(Anyway i suggest getting an R4 cartrdige so you can actually try the games before buyng them)
