raise our children to be seekers of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. This is the only way in which the world will be made into a better place.
The next generation is, and always will be, the key to any true progress.

Be kind to people whether you know them or not. Try to be a good person. Add something creative to the world you can be proud of. Do your part.

Find humility & Love in oneself and direct it towards All beings great and small.
Yes it is that easy, and yes it IS within us all.

I try to impact my little corner of the world in good ways when I have the opportunity.

One small thing I started doing that has been surprisingly rewarding… I make it a point to sincerely say something nice to someone every day. It forces me to notice and people appreciate it.

@Ulmaxes – I think you are onto something! GA

I truly think that there needs to be a change in how we are as people. A need something from “more, more, more” to “I can live with this!” Instead of constantly needing new, slow down. It seems that we’ve hit this point where there is never enough and there is so much waste. I guess a shift in priorities, back to things that are really important.

Is this not what every religion advocates?

cak's avatar

@Bagardbilla – I’m sure it is, but not all people follow a religion. If you just think of it in a way where it’s just part of daily life, don’t assign a religious aspect, I’m not against religion, by any means, people might relate to it, a bit more.

@cak: A humanist ethic is how I like to think of it. I am one of those people who relate to it better when you talk about it outside the realm of religion. It’s the idea of making the world what we want it to be. Cheers!

@cyndyh – I like that, “humanist ethic” – perfect!

@Ulmaxes I am a big believer in your idea. Raising my children to be decent human beings is something that I consider a benefit to the world at large.

@All Thank you for your insightful answers. I feel like we are on the cusp of a big change, and fear it could go either way. I’m interested to know what we could do right now to influence the outcome in a positive way.

I don’t think I defined or even implied any religious elements to my reply. Did I?—I’ll reread— nope. Sorry you took it that way. Many religions do have similar views though, I meant it more in a humanitarian way.
So yes I do agree with you…

@Bagardbilla“Is this not what every religion advocates? from your post right above the post where I addressed you. I wasn’t disagreeing with your question, just saying that some people do not follow religion. They’ve come to this without any form of organized religion – that is all I was saying. I’m not quite sure what that statement was all about.
