Does the weather affect your mood?

You know, sunshine = happy, clouds = sad, or vice versa.

Somewhat… although not in all of the traditional ways (such as sunshine = happiness). Sometimes sunshine does make me happy, when there is a nice breeze out – especially early fall and mid-spring, when you can smell the changes in season. Thunderstorms excite me, so that is a form of happiness. Rain can also make me happy, but sometimes sad depending on my activities for the day and how the rain changes those.

Absolutely. I find that if I’m feeling particularly sad sometimes and it’s really sunny out, I’d prefer it was really dark and dreary. Then again, certain kinds of rain and fog put me into an extremely nice introspective, mysterious mood.

Really stormy weather makes me horny.

Blazing sun doesn’t make me happy. The kind of sun that I think of as “happy” is generally around evening, right when it starts to cast that golden glow over everything.

I looove beautiful sunny days, but rainy days (especially on weekends) make me happy too. I get to curl up in bed with a book and listen to the rain.

I hate sunny days. They make me want to be reclusive and hide from it. I have sensitive eyes and hate the heat.

The rain makes me happy and makes me want to dance.

yes. Quite literally. I have Seasonal affective disorder (SAD)

I get special full-spectrum light bulbs to make me happy! hehe

I’m totally satisfied and happy on overcast, gray, and rainy days. Sunny days just make me indifferent to so many things.

I agree with both of you. I get excited whenever a storm approaches. I also love snow! Too many days of sun puts me in a bad mood.

It did not affect my mood until I moved to a place where I actually experience weather. In Southern California I loved gray rainy days because they were relatively rare. I have never appreciated at beautiful day more than when I moved to The Cornfield. I find that weeks on end of freezing overcast weather do indeed take their toll on my mood.

I particularly hate the snow. I can deal with any other type of weather, but something about a sheet of white covering everything makes me rather pissed. Otherwise, weather can’t effect me too much. Damn, maybe I should move away from Northern Washington…

i might be one of the few who enjoy rainy, cloudy days. if i don’t have an outdoor event planned, rain and snow and wind and cold just make me hunker down and enjoy the comfort of home. sun and warmth means being outdoors, but everybody is not comfortable with shedding the clothes for the warm elements, so sunny days can depress you.

the romantic type enjoys rain and wind and thunder and lightning.

I love dark, overcast days. the brooding sense of what might, and will be.
Sunshine is nice, so long as blistering heat doesn’t follow suit. Heat=me being very unhappy.
But overcast days make me want to go out and do things-progress, moving forward, etc.

Yes. But sunny days don’t necessarily make me feel good and rainy days don’t technically make me feel sad. Sometimes it can be opposite. Depends on circumstance and where my mood is before the weather influences it.

I have SAD, too. I have been more depressed during the winter for as long as I can remember. I so look forward to spring! I love sunny days, with blue skies and white puffy clouds. Add a little breeze, and I am in heaven. :)

shockvalue's avatar

@augustlan haha, you should move to The Bay Area. It’s like that almost every day, with a little fog in the mornings.

right now, I’m in new york experiencing actual seasons. * sigh * I’ll endure.

augustlan's avatar

@shockvalue I’m an East Coast girl, born and bred. I’ve never had the pleasure of missing winter. :(

I have Reverse SAD! Summer is awful for me. I always just want to hide inside until September rolls around. Sometimes even October.
