Cheapest place to buy a high end mountainbike?

Asked by HeNkiSdaBro (392points) March 2nd, 2009

Looking to buy a pretty decent mountainbike in the 1500–2000 dollar range and wonder where the cheapest store is located. Was considering Scott, Nishiki and Kuno bikes. Thanks for you help!

Yeah, craigslist would be great, though it’s true I live in Sweden… Was looking for a store that ships bikes…

I would imagine that on something as large as a bike the shipping is not going to be trivial. .

Do you have a local bike shop? I wouldn’t want to spend that amount without giving it a test ride. I looked on konaworld and it listed 24 dealers is Sweden.

First, go down to your local bike shop and get fitted. You should be able to get sized and test ride ride a couple of bikes to get a feel for what you like. Then buy one on ebay from a seller with high feedback who has sold a few other bikes.

Thanks for your help! I went down to the store and fitted a nice Nishiki bike. Good I did that for sure. Also test rode it for a few laps. I checked the prices online but realized the store offered similar pricing and therefore bought it in-shop. Also good I did that, got lots of freebies and good service. Even got it adjusted after day 1 for free which I could not have done myself. Sometimes it is really better to support local retailers!
