I do not have one, do you? I assume it’s quite similar to a colostomy.

According to this website, about 750,000 Americans have them, so, yeah, I guess you might find some people in the U.S. with them.

I never heard of that until I read this thread, I learn something new everyday on Fluther.

My sister has one.

My daughter has a colostomy. I had never heard of them until she was born and needed one, now I know more about colostomys and ileostomys than I ever imagined. They aren’t so bad.

My “adopted” grandfather (actually my best friend’s grandfather) just got one recently. Why do you ask?

Yay!!!
Oh I ask because I just got one recently and no one seems to know what it is. Everyone thinks it’s weird too but I had to get one. :( Its nice to know others have one!

@Laniee I never realized that people can have ostomy issues at any age. Will you have yours for a long period of time? What I’ve learned with my daughter’s is to take real good care of the skin by your stoma, if there is any slight irritation, use the powder to heal it before it becomes a bigger problem. We change her bag every 2 days, regardless, and she’s had it for 17 months now and her skin is still great. Hopefully this summer sometime, hers will get taken down. If you have any concerns or questions, feel free to PM me.

My sister had an ostemy at age 18 then got an iliostomy several years later. She’s 50 now and still has the iliostomy.

She’s had three kids (all natural, no c-section).
