Yeah, my gigantic loser of a cousin.

It’s worthless. It’s a for-profit “college,” and to many, a “fake” college.

A degree from the University of Phoenix is not viewed by potential employers or legitimate colleges as a valid degree. Listing the University of Phoenix as your alma mater would be a laughing matter for anyone evaluating you.

My brother-on-law is retired Navy. Shortly before he was scheduled to leave the military, he completed a Masters thru Phoenix. It helped him get a job with Raytheon (the government contractors). There is an actual brick-and-mortar University of Phoenix about 30 miles away from me. I’ve heard that its just fine.

I can’t say its true in all cases, but Ive heard from friends who work in human resources departments that University of Phoenix (and similar) degrees get put at the bottom of the pile in their departments.

There are many schools who offer online study and i think you would be better served to find a university which has a good reputation in the field of study you wish to pursue.

The university I’ve chosen is more expensive than some (like Phoenix), however it has a good reputation and I’m sure I’m getting a good eduation (and the classes are online too!)

It’s interesting to hear your opinions. I attend UoP and I like it because it fits in with my schedule well. I do find the courses challenging, especially the teamwork aspect. I have attended a regular “respected” university and I actually feel like I get more out of my courses through UoP than I did there. As far as how it will come across to future employers, I guess I just feel like it’s better to have listed a “fake” college than none at all. I wanted to finish my degree and this was the best way for me to go about it being a working adult.

My mom’s boss has his master’s from there, and (according to her) everyone laughs at him behind his back about it.

@essieness These are the same reasons I chose my school. I know first hand who hard it is to go to school full time and work full time and I respect anyone who can do it. I went back to school not quite two years ago and I’m about 9 courses away from being finished, and I am SO ready to be finished.

As far as the school goes, you are probably right that its better to have some degree than none at all. It would be nice if we were all judged fairly on our own skills in life, but it doesnt seem to be the case. Some people might judge you on your choice of schools, but there are plenty of others who will more than happy to let you prove yourself. I think if you are good at what you do, it will not matter what school you attended once you get past the initial interview.

But then there will be the millions of other things that people can judge you on to deal with:P

No, I would never attend UoP. I attend my community college, and can take online courses through there. I feel people would respect my community college degree, over that internet school. Sorry.

Well, after the research I’ve done talking to HR personnel, supervisors, and others, all I can say is that having a UoP degree is pretty much like having no degree at all so basically you’re wasting your time and money if your mentality is “getting one from here than not having one at all.” I know firsthand how a UoP student can “cheat” because my loser neighbor goes to this “school” and stole his idea for one of his projects in critical thinking or one of those ridiculous classes from a building right here in Wall St, NYC, then had the nerve to brag that he aced his project.

I earned a bachellor of Science degree from University of Phoenix. I went on to get a MBA from the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University.

University of Phoenix is accredited by WASC, the same accrediation as Stanford. It may not be as prestigious as other private, for profit universities, like Stanford or Harvard, but it’s degrees are accepted everywhere an accredited degree is needed.

It is my hope that negative comments do not scare prospective students from going on to get an education. If you are an adult with responsabilities, UoP offers a validated education, fully accredited and certified, with flexible delivery mechanisms. Like any university, they’ve made some things easy at the expense of making other things very difficult. That’s not a criticism, but an observation that UoPe is “different” than other universities. It is not an easy program.

I’m proof that a UoP degree supports entry into respected post graduate schools.
Don’t forget, you still have to kill the GRE or GMAT, so study and learn!
