What should I expect to pay for hardwood floor installation?

Asked by syz (35938points) October 29th, 2007

I’m thinking of buying wood from Lumber Liquidators but this is too big a job for me – is there a typical $/ sq ft installation rate? (I’m trying to figure out if I can afford to do this project.)

That depends on where your live and how many square feet of flooring they are installing. Some contractors may charge a little more on top of the regular rate if the job is small. Also is the flooring pre-finished? If its not pre-finished, than you will also make sure that finishing the flooring is accounted in the price too. You can also start by asking the people at Lumbar Liquidators for the typical install price in your area for x square footage.

I also recommend you get some references from friends and family of flooring contractors they have used and have them (flooring contractors) come out and give you a quote. Get at least 3 quotes. You should be able to find someone to do a good job that meets your budget and you can always have them bid against each other if you prefer one contractor over another.

I hope this helps.
