Do you know of any games that fit this description?

Asked by tekn0lust (1868points) March 17th, 2009

I am looking for games where the goal is to explore an open 3d sandbox type environment to collect a certain number of objects. The best example I can think of are the purple coin levels of Mario Galaxy for the Wii. I know the GTA games have similar tasks but these are far more involved. I also remember something similar in a 90’s game called Carmageddon where you had to “collect” people/zombies for lack of a better word.

Any platform is fine just looking for other examples of this type of game.

The game “Cars” has something similar.. but it’s kinda kid-like. You drive around and collect schtuff.

The example I have in mind isn’t a platform game, but it seems to fit your other descriptions (I think) – Animal Crossing (for the Nintendo Gamecube, DS, and Wii).

It’s a sandbox type world in which you have to earn/collect “bells” (the currency of the little town you live in) to buy furniture. You also collect furniture, art, fossils, clothing, fish, insects, stationary, and more.

To collect these things you wander freely in a very cartoonish little town made just for you, talk with your animal neighbors, grow trees, fish the rivers, and tend to the well-being of the town.
