Mommies, is it safe to turn on the air at home with my 5 days old newborn?

We have 67 degrees in Texas! I’m soooo hot! Is it safe?

Certainly!

Just make certain she isn’t exposed to a draft in her ears. Other than that, if your hot…she may be, too!

Blessing to you both!

Absolutely. Dress her as you would dress yourself, and she’ll be just fine.
Sometimes babies aren’t very efficient at keeping their extremities warm, so If her feet or hands feel chilly, put some socks on them. If her head feels chilly, put a little hat on her noggin.

67 is hot? I keep my furnace at 65 and I’m chilly. I love warm days. I have an air conditioner and I think I might use it 20 days out of the summer.
Congratulations on your new baby!

@elijahsuicide It is for me. My a/c’s on if it reaches 67 in my home. But, I’m in Wis.

I’m in Buffalo. Probably the worst place for me. I need to go south.

That’s the way I feel when we travel south or west ;D

when my daughter was born, they had the AC pointed straight at her. She just got used to the cold and will go out in the winter wearing just a jacket (just like her dad).

As long as it’s not pointed straight at the baby, it’s fine. A good idea might be to have it in a different room. Beware of the draughts.

What everyone else said.

In general don’t over think these things. Common sense goes a long way in caring for a baby. They are much sturdier than we give them credit for.

we had a friend who wouldn’t do a thing without extensively consulting her first year of life baby handbook. I was like, put down the damn book and make a decision for Pete’s sake.

But hey, congratulations on the munchkin. You’re gonna be a great mommy!

@augustlan: lurve for “noggin”.

My son was born in July, we lived in central A/C until like, September. He was always so warm, so he wore just onesies and socks, and was swaddled most of the time.

@elijahsuicide: Please do leave Buffalo asap. I know that was the only thing I could think about doing when I was there.

Yes just bundle up the little guy.

If you are hot in 67 degrees maybe you are feverish. Also fluctuating hormones can make you feel hot or cold. For everybody’s health (including the earth’s) couldn’t you wear summer clothing and open a couple of windows? Remember a newborn doesn’t have the ability to regulate it’s body temperature that others do. BTW if you are still “hot” when it comes time for the well-baby check up at 6 weeks, maybe you should see a DR.

SpatzieLover's avatar

@galileogirl I’m always HOT at 67degrees.

casheroo's avatar

That’s crazy, lol. 67 is warm on days when it is turning into spring, but in the fall it’s cold. Funny how that works.
We keep our heat no higher than 71, and our air conditioning no lower than 69.

@casheroo We keep our heat no higher than 67 and our air no higher than 67 ;D
