Any recommodations on music CDs for infants?

Asked by stars (95points) March 20th, 2009 from iPhone

Just wondering what to buy for my 6th month old. She loves listening to nusery rhymes cd so far and she has a baby Einstein music cd which she also like but now I think we need more variety.

My daughter loved Stan Getz and Lyle Lovett.

Norah Jones is a fantastic suggestion. I’d also suggest the soundtracks from the Peanuts cartoons and classical music is always welcome (Vivaldi).

If you must have some “childrens music”, try an album entitled For the Kids. It features Sarah McLachlin, Barenakid Ladies, Cake, Dan Zanes, Tom Waits and other doing childrens songs.

I suggest anyone who does a lot of different styles or uses a lot of different instrumentation or anyone who does one particular thing really really well. Then you zero in on what they like and get more of that for them. The White Stripes, The Decemberists, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Tom Petty, almost any woman with a deeper-than-average voice -Tracy Chapman, Sarah Vaughn. These are all things my kids liked. As they say, your mileage may vary. :^>

Just play a wide variety of the music you like as well as any good kids’ music you come across. My children loved Eric Bogle, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Rush, Bach, the Beatles and Raffi. They both grew up and were into all kinds of music of their own. Singing and dancing together is great and when they were older, we would discuss the lyrics to songs they liked together when listening in the car.

I used to just tune the radio to a classical music station (NPR). Now that they are 8 & 5, that’s all they listen to… ;)

A lot of babies seem to like Bob Marley for some reason. Also, early Beatles.

I like that so many people suggested music that wasn’t made specifically for kids

@allen_o: I’m gonna assume you don’t have children.

There is a great series from Baby Rock Records, called Rockabye Baby! They make lullaby rendition of hit songs from some of Rock music’s greatest artists. The roots may be rock, but these lullaby rendition really are truly peaceful, pleasant, and worthy of playing for the infants. Definitely try ‘em out, good stuff. Heck I listen to ‘em sometimes. lol

We have two really fun CD’s that my daughter loves, they are great, Sing Along With Putumayo and Animal Playground. They are music from around the world, so it is multicultural and alot of fun. One of her favorites is called Bananaphone. Lots of different artists, I highly recommend!

@MooKoo Our son can’t fall asleep without hiw Rockabye Baby cds! We have Led Zeppelin and Rolling Stones.

My son likes Sesame Street songs, so I tend to buy cds that involve that.

I’d definitely recommend the entire Songs from the Street collection – it has pretty much every Sesame Street song you could ever want on it.

Also, when I was nannying for a friend’s 6-month-old, she absolutely loved Simon and Garfunkel – I think it was something about the tones of their voices and the variation in their music – she just couldn’t get enough of it!

My daughter was rally into Blues when she was little! We still have no idea what the heck as up with that! But she was a fairly miserable little thing. VERY moody. So, yeah. She was a Blues Girl!
