What’s to hate about it?

Nope. Many portmanteau words are part of the English language, it jusg bothers uou because the original two verbs are still used and it feels strange to you…

I can’t stand when people say “same difference” ... but guestimate annoys me less than “Anyways” There’s no S! GAAAH!

Yes, because it’s not a real word! It’s ok to use it every now and again, but if I hear it over and over I may scream.

I don’t hate it, per se, but I don’t exactly like it either. It sounds a little goofy because it’s a made up word and there are better sounding words to get the same meaning across.

with the same passion as the word “hubby”.

Yes! I hate the word guesstimate. I also hate the word anywho.

taking mental note to use the word hubby more often ;)

I don’t like it. I really really don’t like when people say “who’d a thunk it” ahhh!

Yes. And I also hate “ginormous” and “fantabulous.” I get that all words are “made up” by someone, but combining these particular words doesn’t create a new word with a new meaning… it’s just some words that people thought sounded funny together. Like Christmahannukwanzaka or crisptangicy-yah. Is this fad over yet?

@James17555 Lurve to you for using portmanteau words! I love the image.

It’s interesting how old these words are…
guesstimate (noun) 1936
ginormous 1948
fantabulous 1959
hubby 1688
Who’d a thunk it? 1887

@morphail—where’d you get that info?

Except that guestimation rocks your socks off.

For example, no calculator or anything beyond what the average person knows, how fast is the Earth spinning? Well, the Earth spins one time a day. Or once per 24 hours. That’s a speed, now to change that to MPH. USA could be about 3000 miles across. Sounds good. Then looking at a globe or map of the world, it looks like I can fit about 7 USA’s across the Earth if I put them next to each other. So I’m guessing the Earth is about 21000 miles around. (it’s actually about 24900, I looked it up afterwards) 21000 miles per 24 hours, quick estimation I can say it’s a little bit less than 1000 MPH. Whew pretty fast. Maybe wrong? http://ask.yahoo.com/20020411.html says 900 MPH, pretty close for quick questimation :)
