High quality ladies pumps for work?

Asked by metadog (378points) March 22nd, 2009

My wife is a size 9.5 and has a hard time finding good quality dress shoes (pumps) for work. She is very tall, so she tends to try and stay inside a 2 inch heel. When she finds a pair, they don’t typically last long. Bandolino makes some decent looking shoes, but they are crap. I have reached a point where I wouldn’t mind her spending more for shoes as long as they last her for a while. Can you make any brand recommendations? We live centrally between New York and Washington D.C., so I can take her where she needs to go to get good shoes (or online). Thanks!

Welcome to Fluther! Women’s shoes don’t wear the way men’s shoes do, and dress shoes especially don’t hold up quite as well. If you look at them, you’re essentially walking on your toes, so the pressure points are different. For this reason, women go through shoes a lot faster than men. If you’re wearing business attire every day, having at least 10 pairs of shoes for work, and replacing them every 3–6 months, is not unreasonable. That being said, I find Macy’s and Zappo’s (online) a good source for women’s shoes. Also Von Maur has great shoe sales. You pay more for comfort, and should. It’s different for every woman’s foot. The trick with women’s shoes is to buy on sale, and not wait until you need them.

Stuart Weitzman makes GREAT shoes. I’m a size 10, so it’s hard to find a good heel and I lurve Start Weitzman. You’ll spend a little more, but they’ll last a whole lot longer, with comfort included :)
