Hey Joe! I too am a community manager like @richardhenry. Check out our guidelines, explore the site and get to know our culture. Hopefully you will have a seamless transition to Fluther. Also, feel free to visit us in the social chat room and contact any of the mods/managers if you need additional help. Welcome :)

Hey Joe. How’s this site working for you? Yay or nay?

Hi, J0E. Welcome!

I’d heard of wis.dm, but never went there.

Mr_M's avatar

What is the meaning of “dm.”?

Kelly27's avatar

I hear it is a really great place. ;)

kenmc's avatar

@Mr_M it’s a play on the word “wisdom” instead of wisdom.com, they went in another direction.

@Kelly27 Is you Kelly Kelly??

Kelly27's avatar

I am :)
Just wanted to check this place out and see if it has any potential.

kenmc's avatar

@Kelly27 what do you think so far?

Kelly27's avatar

I don’t know what I think, it is hard to navigate around the site….

jlm11f's avatar

@Kelly27 – If you have Qs, I encourage you to join me and @dearest_prudence in this room. She is asking me Qs there too.

J0E's avatar

@Kelly27 I am finding some really cool features on here, just explore the site a little.

wis.dm…mmmmmhmmmm wis.dm…..could be…can you describe it?

lemsteve's avatar

@Mr_M

It is the Dominican Republic, where they had to go to get the website running cheap…@kelly too.

@Kelly27 , Kelly, Kelly…hm. Never heard of it, which explains my tear stained face and puffy eyes.
Did you see in the blurb made for us where it said, “Do not ask Y/N questions!”—I don’t think they understand how deep a question can be, yet still be asked in a Y/N format, and still encourages discussion and comments….

Dutchess12's avatar

@PnL Hi! Thanks…it doesn’t feel seamless tho…it feels like “I’m coming apart at the seams” (insert music video here!) It’s not you guys..it’s the loss of wis.dm….

I was once a member of a community site which shall for the moment remain nameless. Another Q&A site called answerbank closed down and the influx of AB refugees congregated en masse on my community site. The ABers did not like how we did things, did not like being moderated, did not like that one member had a propensity for the “F” word, did not like that we had rules at all. I met a great many people on that website with whom I am still friends to this day. I spent many a happy hour whiling away the time as I read questions and answers from people who were like-minded but different, as I answered questions, and I formulated questions for others to reap the collective, so to speak. Within a year, most of the older members had left because the insanity became too much. Too many of the Y/N questions, with a few of the “why won’t my bf have sex with me?” queries and too few really meaningful exchanges. Within two years, nearly all activity stopped on the website. I believe it is still up but just barely.

To answer your question, yes, I have heard of wis.dm. I would only offer this tiny bit of advice if you have recently come from that site. Look around, find your place, and follow the rules. Don’t try to change Fluther into something you once had. Embrace it for what it is, and be glad for it. Allow the older members here to guide you. Don’t try to stir up sh*t. It will not be well received. Other than that, I say just enjoy yourself.

@VS I hear you…but, at the same time, are new ideas always bad? I have no desire to “change” things, but a few of the features that wis.dm had were very nice. Actually, wis.dm was just almost exactly like this site in the beginning…over time they made some changes that, in the end, contributed to it’s downfall. It got too complicated and compartmentalized. We protested—pointed out what new features we liked and didn’t like, but they didn’t listen. I think it’s very important to subscribe to the KISS philosophy, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t any room for a few improvements? Like, I’m thinking, a reply button in the threads so you can reply directly to a user and their comment….

I understand the value of new ideas @DutchCat. But I also appreciate the value of lurking for a little while and see if things might not work ok for you just like they are. I am not one of those old peeps who are adverse to change. I love change, but I think until you have been for a day or three, it might behoove you to accept things as they are, fit in, and then make worthwhile suggestions to the people who can do something about it. And try not to be too “clique-y” with the people you know from wis.dm. It makes the “clique” seem like it thinks it’s very exclusive.

And your question on wis.dm and I quote: “Um, are we about to change the face of Fluther?” would belie your statement that you are not out to change this site. Just my observations…

Dutchess12's avatar

@VS :) LOL! We haff spies in our midst! That’s funny, VS! I’m busted!! OK, but that was yesterday, and this is today, and yes, this is very different but in someways better—like I said, it’s more like the old Wisdm where we were all in one room. Once they split us up is when it started crashing. Also, in addition to the reply button, they had two tabs, one was for “popular” questions and the other was for “recently asked…” You made it to the popular page based on the number of comments you got…it was nice cause you just had to go there to see what was jumping on wis.dm. In the “recent” questions you found all the blueface Q’s like, “Is my boyfriend going to ask me to marry him,” and “Do you think I’m possessed by the spirit of India?” Other than those two features, it’s pretty cool here! However….I really don’t have three days to lurk…I’m starting a new job on Wednesday, and that will knock out about 95% of the time I have to play around….

You will get a lot of complaints from some of the ladies of wis.dm as they do tend to complain quite a lot about little tiny things.

Yes I am a member there. I am appalled by the censorship here at fluffer. I have asked8 questions and 7 of them have been censored by various people here. I feel very depressed by the extreme level of censorship here. I can’t ask fun questions and I can’t ask yes/no questions either. Seriously wis.dm is a far superior site as compared to fluffer. I am only here because my friends from wis.dm are here and that is the only thing that keeps me here. Seriously, I would have to rate this site 2 out of 10 stars.

reijinni's avatar

I came from there and I’m not sure how long I’m going to be here, but I will stick around as long as I can and try to bring as many questions over to here as I legally can.

Dutchess12's avatar

@lemsteve WHINE! I don’t like it when you talk about the wis.dm ladies like that!!

lillycoyote's avatar

@DutchCat I think lemsteve is gone already. Click on his avatar and see what happens. He saw us coming and headed for the hills. I bet he’s come back as someone else already though, or will eventually.

Sure have. :-)
