Should I run the XP updates for gaming?

Asked by Spargett (5395points) November 11th, 2007

I recently installed Windows XP SP2 via Boot Camp on my iMac. I use XP exclusively for gaming.

I was wondering if I should install all of the updates on my fresh installation of XP. I’ve heard alot of complaining that Windows updates tend to do more harm then good at times. Just wanted to know if I’d actually gain anything in reference to gaming with the updates, or if I’d just do more harm than good. Thanks!

I would certainly recommend that you install any/all CRITICAL updates, because those are really necessary to have, as they address security issues, mostly. I have always unhesitatingly installed them, and with no problems of any kind.

As far as the optional ones are concerned, I would advise you to download and install only those that are “gaming specific,” and that actually have something to do with improving and enhancing your online gaming experiences.

You might contact Microsoft directly and ask them about any specific upgrades/updates that they feel would improve your overall gaming performance. At least, that is what I would do, if I was engaged in online gaming activities.
