If you could commit any felony without getting caught what would it be?

Here’s a list of felonies in case you’re not sure if your crime of choice falls under the category.

Income Tax Evasion fo sho :)

TitsMcGhee's avatar

EXPLOSIVES…

actually, probably drug trafficking. You can make some serious dollars that way.

Bluefreedom's avatar

Although I would find it very difficult to commit any felony for any reason, I’m going to go with Income Tax Evasion because it was the tamest felony that I found on the entire list you provided.

Rob a well-to-do politician.

aprilsimnel's avatar

Bank robbery.

Too bad the Federal Reserve Bank in NYC doesn’t have any actual cash in it. That’d be the first one I’d hit. Actually, it’d probably be the only one I’d need to hit.

augustlan's avatar

I couldn’t do it. Caught or not, I’d know, and I’d feel guilty as hell for the rest of my days.

Amoebic's avatar

I’d have a farm for growing illegal substances.

MacBean's avatar

I was going to say I second what @augustlan said, but then I realized…

I think I could probably kill my sister’s abusive husband and feel absolutely zero remorse. And even if I did feel guilty, my niece and nephews would be safe, so I’d be able to deal with it. So… yeah. I pick murder.

antimatter's avatar

I can’t think of anything I would like to do, I would like to go into all the goverments top secret stuff and use it to change the world or I would like to hack in to Microsoft’s bank accounts and give all the money to the poor.

MacBean's avatar

Aww! @antimatter: Fluther’s modern-day Robin Hood! Lurve.

timeand_distance's avatar

I would totally kill this one chick. I’ve been plotting her demise for years.

stupid bitch.

Lupin's avatar

I’d go with growing and selling special crops. Sure beats $2.50 per 40 pound bale hay.

TheLoneMonk's avatar

Hi Tits McGee: Sure you could make some good money and never get caught but what about all of the poor lives down the line who might get forever screwed up by your trafficking in drugs?

This is my first answer ever here, although I have been kind of lurking for a few days, and don’t want to start off on the wrong foot. I assume Tits is saying this tongue-in-cheek

TheLoneMonk's avatar

I guess since I barged on the thread, I should answer: I think I would have a house of prostitution. Maybe I would be the lone prostitute or a select few others who I knew were in it for shits and grins and a little cash.

Lupin's avatar

@TheLoneMonk I’m sure TM, like me, allocated all those bales of stuff for personal use. Anyway I changed my mind.

Cue the music…“If I had a Million Dollars” by Bare Naked Ladies
I’d go with Counterfeiting.
If you don’t know the song you can download it for free at… Wait! Isn’t that a Felony?!?

ShanSlumbers's avatar

My mind went strait to killing when I read this. Woodchipper.
Come on… You’ve thought of it!

I’d probably be like Jigsaw (off of Saw) and make incredibly creative suicide traps in order to teach people what life is really worth.

Now you guys think I’m weird… :[

aviona's avatar

that was creepy @AlfredaPrufrock you gave me the heebie jeebies

AlfredaPrufrock's avatar

@aviona, I do have a dark side.

Blondesjon's avatar

I have to go with murder as well.

or ripping the tags off of mattresses

El_Cadejo's avatar

Two words. Grow House.

cak's avatar

@Blondesjon you rebel, you! Not the murder…the tags!

For me, I’d get caught…no doubt Income Tax Evasion.

I’ve wanted to torture someone, just torture, not kill -bring him to the brink and back…maybe repeat it, one more time…but again, I wouldn’t kill him. I would want him to live with the same fear he left me with – but I would never want to be seen as a monster, like he was.

Blondesjon's avatar

@cak…I have no problem lowering myself to someone else’s level if it means I can do the world a favor by eliminating that someone.

the tags make such a satisfying rrriiippping sound

cak's avatar

@Blondesjon The thought was entertained on more than one occasion.

Oh yeah, that sound is wonderful! My son just got a new bed…time to remove the tags!

Blondesjon's avatar

@cakif you get caught jonsblond will bake the cake and I will hide the file in it…just act suprised when they bring it in

cak's avatar

@Blondesjongood to know…I’ll act surprised! Chocolate, please! I have a serious chocolate craving going on.

TitsMcGhee's avatar

@TheLoneMonk: Well, depending on the drug being trafficked, it’s debatable whether lives would end up “screwed up.” I’d argue that my life is better because of the drugs I’ve taken. It was said mostly in jest, but yeah.

SeventhSense's avatar

Well it’s kind of scary that, the only thing keeping some people from performing felonies is a law. I would think that killing someone or robbing someone are simply not done because it’s immoral. It actually makes a strong case for teaching some type of morality or ethics.
Now income taxes are neither ethical or moral and were tacitly adopted through a deception by the government, so I would say that income taxes would be my choice.

Blondesjon's avatar

@SeventhSense…My morality and ethics, subjective as they are, serve me well. Tell me, as a recovering alcoholic, do you wish someone would have taught you earlier about the immorality of drinking to excess.

Oh, wait a minute, alcoholism is a disease. How convenient.

SeventhSense's avatar

@Blondesjon
As a society there are some things we have decided that are not subjective but an agreed upon code of behavior for the good of the collective. Alcoholism is most certainly a malady/disease not a moral dilemma which causes great distress for all involved. The idea of alcoholism as a disease is hardly an argument for justifiable felonies though, and if one inadvertently commits manslaughter during a D.W.I. that hardly excludes him/her for the consequences of such action. I don’t imagine one could argue that. At the point ones malady becomes another’s affliction is the point at which it is an issue for society.

Blondesjon's avatar

@SeventhSense…When you say we decided, I have to admit some confusion. Was there some meeting I missed when we all decided what label we were going to affix to everything?

Alcoholism was originally labeled a disease in order to remove some of the stigma associated with admitting to being an alcoholic. A little wordplay to ease you past the ego. What it’s become is a crutch and an excuse for relapse.

As compelling and persuasive as the arguments are, you cannot convince me that alcoholism is a disease like cancer or Alzheimer’s.

SeventhSense's avatar

@Blondesjohn
As to the Alcoholism issue, it’s a red herring and I am sorry that I engaged that.
Back to the original topic of commiting felonies:
You said,
My morality and ethics, subjective as they are, serve me well
The first premise of this is the definition of
1.morality and ethics and
2. the premise that they serve you well.
As per Wikipedia
morality-In its first, descriptive usage, morality means a code of conduct which is held to be authoritative in matters of right and wrong. Morals are created by and define society.

Therefore morality or morals are not subjective. As to whether your particular definition of morality serves you well, that can not be inferred. Your argument is built upon a faulty premise. Therefore it is a fallacy.
But maybe you just want to kill someone.:)
Just own it, but don’t imagine that one can find moral or legal justification for it.

Blondesjon's avatar

@SeventhSense…What do you mean a societal definition is not subjective? Polygamy alone is viewed differently as you travel the globe. In some societies having more than one wife is considered a symbol of success and power. In other societies having more than one wife is not only a sin but illegal.

Faulty premise indeed.

El_Cadejo's avatar

@SeventhSense I agree as well, thats why i went with grow house. Victimless crime :)
