How do you feel about permanent make-up/cosmetic tattoos?

Asked by hug_of_war (10735points) March 30th, 2009

Would you get a cosmetic tattoo (make-up, freckles, etc)? Do you have one? What are your thoughts on them?

I disagree with the idea. If it was something to cover up something else that’s missinng, I’d totally agree with you.

It’s the worst idea in the world and it looks horrible!

Well… if you go to bed and forget to take off your makeup, it could work if you dont want to wake up looking like a trainwreck and scare the hell out of your s/o. I dont have anything tatooed, but I dont think its such a bad idea.

@May2689 Why don’t guys know women don’t wake up looking how we do lol. silly boys

@Facade : I know!! It actually takes time and equipment for us to look gorgeous!!! And I think they know, they just dont want to acknowledge that fact.

My mom has her eyeliner done, but I think it’s more for time-saving purposes than anything. She’ll probably chime in tomorrow.

You know, I never really put much thought into it because I don’t wear any kind of makeup anyway, and it doesn’t matter to me what other people do with their bodies. But you brought up freckles and now I’m actually wondering if this is something I’d go for. I was just telling someone how my freckles faded when I was in my mid-/late-teens and I miss them so much. Hm…

I guess it would be okay to have something really natural done. I’d hate to have full on eyeliner or lipstick on everyday, because I don’t wear makeup every day. No makeup except EYELINER or LIPSTICK would look really strange.

Before you do something like that, go look at a new picture of Cher. She had eyeliner tatooed on a few years ago. Look at her lower eye lash line. Her liner is sagging and looks awful.

I prefer my wife to not wear makeup.. she’s gorgeous without it… tattooed or otherwise.

I’ve seen people tattoo eyebrows… it’s kinda weird.. but I suppose if you lost your eyebrows in a horrific eyebrow raising contest.. it would be better than prosthetics. ..

I’m kinda intrigued by the women that get their nipples tattooed back in place after mastectomies . That’s badass .

Me no like. Sorry.

@fundevogel In an instance like that, I’m all for it. This concerns self esteem, which is very important to a woman. I admire this lady.

Now as for permanent make-up, I’ve seen the good & the bad. I have a sister-in-law who had her brows done & they look really good. BUT, her sister had it done, & it looks awful. The color has turned to a burgendy color. A friend of mine had it done, & the brows aren’t even. It depends totally on the expertise of the person doing it, of course. Personally, I’d never have it done. I’ll just put my make-up on every day, thank you.

I have a friend in her fifties who got her eyeliner tattooed on several years ago and she has never regretted it. It hasn’t sagged or faded much and she says it’s easier than having to do it every day anyway. Personally, I would never do it, but I don’t much care if anyone else does.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@KatawaGrey Ooooh, on that tender eye skin? She’s brave.

casheroo's avatar

I wouldn’t do it. I think people who have conditions where no hair grows, and they get eyebrows tattooed on, that’s understandable. I just think doing makeup is weird, why would you want to look the same every time you wore makeup?

@fundevogel, those tattooed nipples are pretty badass

I think it’s fine for people who have the same look every day. My mom has done her eye makeup the same every day for 30 years, whether it’s day or night, summer or winter, typical day or special occassion. For someone like her I can see it being a real time saver. For someone like me, it wouldn’t be a good thing. I really enjoy putting on my makeup, trying new trends and colors.

@jbfletcherfan: I asked her about that once. Apparently they swabbed on some kind of numbing ointment and by the third or fourth swab, she couldn’t feel anything. She’s also pretty tattooed in her own right so I don’t think she thought of it as too big a deal.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@KatawaGrey I see. Yeah, they’d have to get me REAL numb! The danger of doing eyeliner so close to your eye scares me, too.

KatawaGrey's avatar

@jbfletcherfan: I hear ya. I don’t think I could ever get a tattoo on my face.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@KatawaGrey Yes, that’s one place you can’t hide if something goes haywire. The brows wouldn’t be so dangerous, but the eye lids? Yikes!
