What is happening in Portland, OR on July 4th weekend?

Asked by emilyrose (2272points) March 31st, 2009

My best friend’s bachelorette party is going to be 4th of July weekend in Portland. We know about the blues fest on the waterfront. Is there anything else going on that we should know about? A fun concert, festival or event?

There is a big firework display on the waterfront. It is a little far away to know of anything really specific. It should be pretty active downtown since the 4th is on Saturday. I know of a big house party if you like cheap beer and punk rock guys.

I would just keep an eye on the Willamette Week before you get here.

Interesting that you asked this, because I will be in Medford that weekend visiting a friend (I live in Texas). I’ll have to follow this!

Vancouver, WA, just across the river, also has an enormous fireworks display at Fort Vancouver.

Lots of fireworks I may presume.

a couple of other websites to watch for upcoming events—

There’s a calendar of events at Pioneer Courthouse Square here—http://www.pioneercourthousesquare.org/default.htm
You can check out the Rose Garden, Japanese Garden, Chinese Garden, Pittock Mansion, the Oregon Zoo.
You can do some taste tests at Rogue Brewery, MacTarnahans, McMenamins or other local breweries.
For cheesy activities you can check out the Underground Tour or take one of the other guided walks.
There are jet boat rides on the Willamette up to Oregon City and back. If it’s good and hot that weekend, that would be fun to keep you cool.
There’s the Sternwheeler for a river cruise—the offer brunch and daytime tours.
You can check out some of the trendy/funky neighborhoods, enjoy a nosh and a drink (Hawthorne, NW 23rd Avenue, the Pearl).
