Do you bring a water bottle when you leave the house?

Asked by Trustinglife (6668points) April 1st, 2009

If so, what kind? Are you happy with your habit about this?

If you’re wondering what’s up with my picture today, it’s just a baby with crazy hair I found somewhere on the internet. I thought it’d be a fun April Foolish avatar. I don’t got no kids.

ALWAYS. My purple Sigg. Very happy about this habit because I stay hydrated.

I have one in my car and I bring water in my backpack to school. My friend told me that he drinks water before he goes to school and then doesn’t really drink any until he gets home or even later if he has lacrosse practice. I thought that didn’t sound like a good idea.

The two I have are Nalgene bottles, just in case you were wondering.

Yes, if I’m going to be gone for a long time, or if I’m thirsty and I don’t have time to actually drink anything before leaving. Usually I fill a $5 reusable plastic one from the grocery store with Brita water and throw a couple of ice cubes in it, but right now I have a bunch of leftover ozarka bottles from an event, so I’ve just being going with those. It’s really convenient. I recycle them, so I don’t feel too badly about it.

May I inquire what the inspiration for this question was?

I drink around a half gallon of water a day. I take a bottle with me when i leave the house and just refill it throughout the day.

I buy a 6 or 8 pack of bottled water and fill them up when they run out from 2.5 gallon jugs. I’ve tried to bring reusable water bottles with me when I’m out but I am always forgetting them or leaving them behind somewhere. I have one in my purse and one in my car. The one in the car is sometimes a problem because it either freezes in the winter or gets unpalatably hot in the summer.

casheroo's avatar

No. I don’t drink water.

arnbev959's avatar

No, on a normal day I’m usually within a reasonable distance of a water fountain. I don’t like to weigh myself down by carring anything that I don’t absolutely need.

Yeah, I bring one everywhere. I bought a really pretty one from Klean Kanteen, so I don’t have to worry about ingesting chemicals.

I refuse to drink from water fountains because it just seems like a really easy way to get sick. On days when I forget my water bottle, I really feel a difference: I have less energy and I sometimes get headaches. Carrying the bottle around is worth it.

Haha, the kid in your avatar looks like those troll dolls that were so popular in the 90s…:)

Only when I go hiking.

I have some no-name, reusable bottle that goes everywhere with me! I drink water, constantly. I don’t buy bottled water, my fridge has a filter and that is good enough for me. Even without it – I’m going to say something that is almost like blasphemy to some – our tap water is fantastic! Yes, I like tap water.

aviona's avatar

Our tap water is fantastic, too.

The tap water in Santa Cruz sucked, though. It actually gave me salt cravings. I was getting the most ridiculous cravings for salt and I finally traced it to drinking the tap water in Santa Cruz. Buying a Brita fixed that. Some argue that it was the placebo affect, but really the cravings vanished.

Always! I carry my bright red Sigg bottle full of Marin County’s finest with me where ever I go. I carry it like my wallet. It’s kind of a security thing. I got so dehydrated once that I had to go to the ER to get an infusion. It took 3 bags to make me feel normal again.

Virtual high five @loser for Siggs and North Bay water!

I bring a water bottle. It helps preserve the environment. It is a fancy mason jar. I don’t use plastic (because of environment and toxins). And I don’t like the taste of the stainless steal ones so I use glass. I’ve very happy about my choice.

aviona's avatar

I would use glass if I weren’t so clumsy :/

RedPowerLady's avatar

@aviona When I first started I broke my bottle (at home thankfully). I haven’t since and I’ve dropped it a ton of times. I guess they make the mason jars pretty sturdy. They also make cozys for glass water bottles in case you drop them. I don’t use one but am looking into it. (maybe i’ll sew one myself as that is my new hobby, lol).

aviona's avatar

@RedPowerLady I actually ended up breaking my first Sigg over time…it got a leak because I/my friends dropped it so many times. Now I’m on my second and it has quite a few dents. I need a Sigg cozy! You should knit me one!

RedPowerLady's avatar

@aviona Is a Sigg a stainless steel?? I’m laughing picturing one of those getting broken, lol.

aviona's avatar

aluminum, but still…told ya, clumsy…

aprilsimnel's avatar

I need to do that. I want to start drinking more water more often.

RedPowerLady's avatar

@aprilsimnel I used to hate water. But some people I trusted told me I needed to start drinking more. So I payed attention. Started carrying water around with me and it worked. When you have it with you, you are tempted to drink it. And you will feel much healthier as well. I recommend a stainless steel water bottle (or glass if you aren’t clumsy) because of health concerns associated with other types.

aprilsimnel's avatar

@RedPowerLady – Thank you. I had no idea there were issues with the type of bottle. Good to know.

aviona's avatar

HOW CAN YOU HATE WATER?!

RedPowerLady's avatar

@aviona I just didn’t like the taste. And yes water does have a taste. I was (and still a bit am) addicted to soda and well water didn’t compare. That was a long time ago. I’ve wised up since then.

cak's avatar

@RedPowerLady – I agree, water does have a taste! I’ve had great drinking water and really bad water that had a metallic taste, before. I’ve also had nasty, disgusting water that has a sulfur smell to it…that’s horrible!

RedPowerLady's avatar

@cak Thank you. People used to think I was nuts when I would say that. I would say definitely in different cities too the water taste different, but perhaps that is from the pipes, i’m not quite sure.

Fun to get all these answers to my question! Yay!

My own answer: I have a huge 2.2 liter polycarbonate bottle from EnviroProducts, and I bring it with me everywhere. I get comments and jokes about it all the time. My buddy works for Klean Kanteen in Chico, CA, and they are considering sponsoring the film I’m working on (a documentary called American Dream). My friend shipped me a Klean Kanteen bottle to check it out, which I thought was a nice perk and a thoughtful touch.

I love water. I find if I go 30 min without drinking, I usually will really notice the difference. I joke with people that I’m addicted to water. I rarely drink anything else.

warpling's avatar

My red sigg.

It has become a total habit. I take it out of the house, to school, walking, to crew, to casual restaurants even to save on soda. I love it!

I keep a Fiji bottle filled with filtered water from the house. Sometimes, I will keep a gallon jug of Public distilled water in the fridge at work, but I generally keep the Fiji in my pocketbook wherever I go. I’m okay with it but now having seen aviona’s cute little purple Sigg, I want one of those!
