Do you and your SO have a song?

Asked by SuperMouse (30845points) April 2nd, 2009

FGS’s question about the Van Morrison classic inspired this one. Do you and your SO have a song that is your song? What song is it? Would you like to share the story behind it?

Anything by the Carpenters but especially “We’ve Only Just Begun.” Also anything by my brother’s band, especially “Jesus Loves Me But He Can’t Stand You” and “Chester Nimitz.”

Pets by Porno for Pyros is the song I most closely relate to our relationship. An odd choice, I’m sure…but it’s the self-titled album he bought on our first “official” date, and that’s just one of the songs that instantly reminds me of us.

“Stellar” by Incubus.
We wanted a love song that we could stand to listen to without feeling saccharine.

@zephyr826 – I like feeling saccharine – it is so much less filling than feeling sugary.

Our song has changed through out our years of knowing each other…
Only One – Yellowcard, (his choice) turned to
Since U Been Gone – Kelly Clarkson, (my choice) turned to
Gives You Hell – All American Rejects, (me again) turned to
Gravity – Sarah Barielles, (our choice) and is now
Human – Jon McLaughlin (his choice)

our relationship is a long story lol

“The Rainbow Connection” – we danced to it at our wedding. =)

Our wedding song is the Dreaming Tree by DMB. Not the sentiment, but he fact that we heard that song about 10 times on our wedding weekend. Whenever we hear it we call it “the wedding song” and laugh.

I’m dating myself but our song is and always has been “Waiting for a Girl Like You” by Foreigner. It was the first song we ever danced to, it was played when we got married, and then we didn’t hear it for years. I still think about our first dance when I hear it even now 25 years later.

@VS I read “I’m dating myself” as that you were single! Then I couldn’t figure out why you were referring to “our’ and “we.” I did think it was cool that you had a song though. LOL

ubersiren's avatar

“Angel” by Aerosmith. That was our last dance song at our wedding. We think that one suites us better than our first dance which was “What a Wonderful World.”

VS's avatar

@janbb There have been times in my life when “dating myself” would have been so much simpler!

Music is a passion of my S/O so over time we have found several songs, but there are one or two that mean a whole lot to us. :)

Counting Crows – ‘Accidentally in love’ (the one of Shrek!)

It’s a long story..

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

Yes we do. We are both in our mid-forties, and our engagement is the 1st for both of us. It is Etta James’ “At Last”.
