I'm looking to purchase a new flat screen television. What are some brands/models that you recommend?

Samsung and Sony make the top-of-the-line models in those sizes. Samsung has stopped making 42” sets as of this year, so if you look online, I’m sure some stores will have good deals on those models.

I’ve been looking at (too broke for for at the moment) 40”+ LCD sets, too.

I have an old-school Sony Bravia XBR450 32” HD, a 2nd gen 720 HD set from 2003. Sehr gut, ja. Unfortunately, it’s a CRT, which means I’ll need 4 men to eventually move it out of my flat whenever I go LCD. And I’m sure I won’t get near the admittedly cheap $800 I paid for it at the time if I try to sell it. :(

We just got a great new one from Panasonic. I’m not sure of the measurements, though; ours is 72” I believe.

We have had a Sony Bravia 46” for a year now and we are very happy with it.

Go with the best… Sharp. They designed the LCD tech and are top notch. 1080p of crap are just that, don’t skimp with cheaper brands wait and save if you must.

Sharp? Are you kidding me?
Op, ignore that, Sharp are no way the best.

Ok, Sony LCD’s are good, I agree with that….but go for the top line X Series, its a very capable set and looks the part to with the floating glass design. There are newer ‘slim-line’ models out but they’ll set you back a lot more.

BUT, if you want the best, then get a Pioneer Kuro. There’s no other.
But be quick though as they have now been discontinued as Pioneer have pulled out of the plasma market and prices are set to increase on the remaining stock. And rumour has it they will all be gone by September.
